I quit a career in high-end property management to pull my kids out of rotten schools and stay at home to homeschool. We'd been (barely) living off of hub's single paycheck for about 3 years.

I started writing erotica late at night as a hobby, made a vanity site of stories, threw up a few banners and realized I could start making some "spending money" with it... that was 6 years ago and I've been here ever since!

my mom told me a son of his co-worker makes money off of something online, making $1k/mo. I thought he got just some deals for site design so I didn't bother. Then next time I hear this guy is making $12k/mo already by selling naked chicks. Goddamn that was too much. I had to check out how to make money with that. I opened up my bookmarks pressed my fav. porn site and started browsing. Wasn't long till I found a link on one paysite tour saying "Webmasters make money" and I clicked. From that click on it all started... paying the bills for 3 years now and going nothing but up.

OK this thread has certainly inspired me if nothing else. I started building my site first because I wanted to create something different something that I myself would enjoy. I get tired of looking for good sites and getting bombarded with BS. So that is what got me started. I wasn't seriously considering it as a business until I started visiting forums like this which have given me hope that eventually I will be able to make a living at this.

I have lyme disease and have been ill since July. I had to quit my job which has really hurt us. My hubby does construction which barely covers the bills and in the winter time it doesn't even cover them all. I have been doing some web design work for other people to help make ends meet but that is a lot of work for little pay and certainly no residual income. So I got to thinking maybe I should be building for myself but what to build then the idea for the adult site popped into my mind and well that's where I started. I just started though so I don't know if its going to work out but you all give me hope. If I could just make 400.00 a month with my site I would be happy because that would be close to what I was making at my part time job before I got sick and besides I really would rather work from home so that I can be here with my toddler. These years fly by so quickly and I don't want to miss a thing.

So thats my reasons.

Tina, sorry to hear you are ill. $400/mo is a very achievable goal if you know basic marketing. Don't do the same mistake I did at start. I was making my site for months before releasing it to public just because I thought it's not good enough. Before I worked for mainstream internet company. Then my buddy Ronnie, from AE kicked me in the butt and said to give it a go already and I started sending traffic. Then money showed up, which would happen already before but it didn't because I am a perfectionist. This was a good lesson for my perfectionism.

If you know how to entice a surfer in to buying then just start posting small free sites to link lists and make "avs" sites out of them and send them out to "avs" companies. Select a niche that turns you on the most as you'll be able to write good ads for it. When I write ads myself I get a boner reading them, lol. Then I know they are gonna work. Good luck with all and just start with building/submittig sites - they are a good indicator of how good you will do.

Thank you Kath and MC. I am certainly feeling better than I did before starting antibiotics but I've been on them for nearly 3 months now and hoping this is my last round. I hate taking meds. Just a word of caution wear bug repellent when you are outdoors. I am not out that often and was only out for a 4th of July picnic when I got bit by a tick that has caused me months of pain and illness. No I wasn't in the woods are anything. Be cautious trust me you don't want this. I've been through surgery and dental surgery and having kids (natural without meds) and nothing has been as painful as the joint pain I've suffered with this Lyme Disease. I didn't need meds for labor but I had to start taking Lortab for the pain in my joints. I am off of it now but took it for a little over a month. I still have pain on some days that warrants taking meds but for the most part I am doing much better.

MC thanks for the advice. I put my site up a few weeks ago and am getting some traffic about 600 unique visitors so far. Not great but not bad I suppose. I don't know much about marketing but am learning all that I can. I am building some small free sites to feed into my main site and hope that helps. That is the one piece of advice that I have gotten over and over again.

I am not so great at writing the ads but I suppose as with anything you get better the more you do it so I will keep at it.

I am thrilled to hear that my goal of 400.00 a month is one that I should be able to attain.

Saw a show on TV.
Couples were fucking and taking pics on the net and making millions. I figured hey! what am I doing here....
So I started posting on pic posts with 1 domain.
Very little info was available in 1998... But the money was good back then.
Then I bought 10 domains....30 domains....
Then I went to conferences, met all kinds of great people (maqua, CoolE, Voltar)
Was building free sites. Then started my paysite.
Met a guy in University, started a mainstream hosting co.
Then we moved to adult.
And here I am today... We still host mainstream (90%) of our biz... But we are now more focused on adult, since I know a thing or 2 about it. We now employ 4 guys full time.

Tina, if I remember correctly you said you are in need of money. In that case I would like to suggest to leave your "main" site alone and simply make free sites and feed the traffic directly to sponsors. You will have a way better chance of making money instantly. Make 1 free/avs site per day and set your goal to make 1 sale with every site you make. Submit to about 70-80 (don't submit to more as you won't get any more traffic) and to about 10 top AVN (ex AVS) sites. Work only 5 days a week and that's about 21 sites with each bringing say $35, that's little over $700/mo.

You will learn to market faster that way than if you were using only your "main" site to push trafic to sponsors. Once you have a lot of free sites you can put a link on them to feed your main (or "hub") site - that's once you "used" the traffic on free sites first.

MC is the formula for a free site basically the same as an avs except without the avs entry? I have only built my main site and one avs site so this is really all I know at this point.

yes. instead of the avs entry page you put a warning page there. Check listings on link lists out and you'll see that after the warning page everything else is the same. Just put some warning text on the "warning page", put recips on it, ads and "enter" link below all of them and you are set

Well, bought a computer back in"97, basically because it was a cool 'gadget'. Got hooked up to the internet, started surfing around, typed in "sex" in a search engine. Wow, pics of naked women!

Shortly after realized that these sites promoted other sites where you had to pay money. Made the connection that they got paid for this advertising.

My wife made our first site for fun with some bondage pics of herself which I took one night when she was drunk. It was on Angelfire and got shut down; when we moved to paid hosting and got a domain name, I convinced her to put up an AVS to help with the hosting bill (and to keep children out). That's how we learned you could make money at it.

After some time and investment, I became frustrated that while she made excellent sites, the traffic just wasn't coming. I studied the business and built some AVS sites, free sites and a links list.

I had fun doing it. The links list is now defunct, but my first AVS site is still up and still making money. I wish I'd gone into it full-time a long time ago.

I was working with my husband doing a lot of print and mainstream graphics work. One day about 3 months ago we got some porn spam in our email ( we seldom surfed any porn sites) needless to say it was a little intriguing to us both and the next hing you know.... :-)
