Sig Whores, What Do You Think? - Page 4

IMHO, the majority of "sig whores" continously post loads of garbage, polluting the threads with noise, and they rarely contribute with anything of benefit for others than themselves.

Like when you find an interesting thread, you must browse through 90% garbage in order to filter the relevant postings - WASTE of time.

One of the main reasons why I rarely spend my time on webmaster boards that allow this kind of shit. Time is money.

People seem to be obsessed with post counts. Several times people say that if you've got a high post count, then you can't be a successful webmaster. I think that a more interesting measure is the number of views per post that your threads get. That's a much better indication of your value (or the appeal of your boob pics

Board Marketers are fine and dandy... it's not a dirty word. They generally just can't understand that even the most regular regulars here don't overtly "whore" their own products in sigs or posts.. out of respect for the people that pay for that exclusive privilage.

Doesn't mean any less networking or business gets done.. it just doesnt get done at the expense of the sponsors who contribute the dollars this show requires.

It means there is no need for the paying advertisers to be rammed down our throats as well, it's hard to argue against the policy here on any level really. (apart from making the board look smaller than it is on boardtracker's toplist)

Here's my two cents. I think each board has it's good points. I like this one because of the way it separates the business from the chit chat. And that's what makes the posts in the chit chat section not sig whore posts like they might be on other boards. I like GFY for what it is. A place to meet people, find sponsors, entertainment, and sig whore. Plus read the posts from the self promoting, lipstick wearing goofbag called Juicy Links.

I also like to ask questions if I don't understand anything. I also found out that it's sometimes better to state a position even if you don't actually believe in it. People are often more informative when they are being destructive than when they are being helpful.

I know he doesn't but even if he did, it wouldn't matter. A sig whore is one that posts just for the sake of having this sig seen. There is no thought behind the post and it contributes nothing to the conversation.

Good question Jim, and I only read your initial post on this.

As you know I run a board myself. I chase away the sig whores and the freeloading contest whores all the time. No excessive contests and absolutely no token system in place. It just attracts the wrong kind of webmaster.

I could care less if my board is slower due to the fact there is no post whoring or drama going on. Quality over quantity.

Oh yeah - I almost forgot about this. This should be a good sign of how bad things are around here as far as sig whores & people that can't be bothered to read our sig rules.

We had Sparky do some custom work to the board - one this is a page that displays all the sigs that are over 80 characters - I went thru it last night & "corrected" about 50 sig files.

The other is a little button next to the poster that only our mods can see - now if they see a bad sig file, a simple click corrects the problem.
