I calculated that I would need a minimum of 17KV to power the house along with the A/C.
At $10/head per night for sleeping in A/C comfort, it would have only taken 12 guests 5 nights to pay for the generator -- not including fuel. This would have included non-alarm breaking popcorn, movie entertainment, A/C and hot showers. And, I probably will have solar next year with the Beacon M5 inverters which do Virtual Islanding and grid-tie. That way, when the grid is down, my solar array isn't useless.

I'll take roasting in the summer heat and humidity any day over freezing to death.
We are very lucky this time that our weather is so nice that I probably wouldn't be running the A/C even if I had power. Workers down from Louisiana surveying damage inspected my block this afternoon. They felt it would be another week before I have power again. Have I mentioned how glad I am that I bought a generator? |
