'Ironhead' Heyward loses battle with recurring tumor

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2460799

Heyward departed Pitt as an underclassman to enter the NFL draft and was the first-round selection of the New Orleans Saints in 1988. He played from 1988-92 for the Saints and then had stints with Chicago (1993), Atlanta (1994-96), St. Louis (1997) and Indianapolis (1998).

I've always liked him when he played, was only a Pro Bowl player once, but he was a solid player.

Just got back from the bar where I watching game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final. And what a treat it was! Game 7 is gonna be sick. As far as I'm concerned, this is the real final because first its going 7 games and second, these were the two best teams in the conference down the stretch and this should be the finals, no offense Edmonton fans, the Oilers have played well.

The East is the beast. It would take a miraculous effort by the Oilers to knock off either of these teams. Should be an awesome finals no matter who joins the Oilers. Good hockey is back and that's all that counts.

Titans trade McNair to Ravens

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....ap/index.html

The Ravens, who reportedly have offered a fourth-round pick in next spring's draft, confirmed that McNair will take a physical Wednesday, but the team said the results were not expected to be available until Thursday morning.

McNair, who turned 33 in February, was the winningest quarterback in franchise history. In 11 seasons, he went 81-59 and led them to their only Super Bowl in 2000. He and Peyton Manning shared the league's MVP award in 2003.

Big Ben in serious condition after motorcycle accident

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2480830

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who last season became the youngest quarterback in NFL history to lead his team to a Super Bowl title, was badly injured in a motorcycle crash Monday morning and set for surgery.

Roethlisberger, 24, was in serious but stable condition in an operating room, said Dr. Larry Jones, chief of trauma at Mercy Hospital. Jones spoke before going into surgery, The Associated Press reported.

"He was alert and conscious" at the scene of the accident, said Ernie Roman, shift commander for the Allegheny County emergency service, told AP.

ESPN.com's John Clayton reported that early indications were the injuries were not life-threatening.

I remember last year seeing an interview of Bill Cowher and he said that he didn't support Roethlisberger riding a motorcycle, but that he was not going to stop him from doing so.

Roethlisberger has said in the past that he prefers not to wear a helmet. He has pointed out Pennsylvania's 35-year-old state law requiring helmets to be worn was amended to make helmets optional.
I never will understand this law. It's the same here in Ohio. We have to wear seatbelts in cars, but someone completely exposed on a motorcycle isn't required to wear any protection at all? It's amazing to see some of the things people wear while riding motorcycles on the freeways.

I hope he makes it back ok. The broken left sinus cavatiy could be problems. He must have smashed his face good. Hopefully nothing serious with his knees.

Number one reason why I hate baseball

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2485365

The bullshit of throwing a ball 90+ mph at someone intentionally and all of those bench clearing “brawls” that are so rarely an actual fight.

Nothing but fake drama that they have to have to get fans to come to the park and be willing to be bored for 3+ hours… if the game was so exciting why do the players on the bench have to find things to do like chew on seeds and play with their rally caps to keep themselves busy?

Try coaching once.
BB is more like chess, 80% doesn't matter, the 20% does.
At my level, the youngest ones, hitting a batter is bad pitch, but at the MLB level, there are some merits to hitting someone.

Baseball fans will sit through a 1-0 14 inning game all the time.
If you don't like watching it, you have the remote

And as the ratings show, so does most of America.

I don’t care what the merits are, there is NEVER a good reason to intentionally hurt someone in a game, John Cheney got spanked pretty hard when he had his player to go "take the goon out" as he should have been since it was completely uncalled for and will tarnish his reputation for years to come.

I have no desire for my nephew to learn that part of baseball, the part where it says its ok to bean someone with a 90 mph fastball since that is completely uncalled for, and anyone in the position to teach kids that and do teach kids that needs to get out of that position.

And we have a game 7 for Lord Stanley!

After the way this series started I thought "sweep" for sure, but game 5 in OT I think was the best chance Carolina had to win the cup, now I think its all about the Oilers and if they can put the “cherry on top” on one of the greatest playoff runs ever if not the greatest.

I've really enjoyed this series.

I still can't name a single player or coach other then Gretzky, but I have watched the playoffs since I was in the Navy in the early 90's.
