Well, play that first video in a loop for 3 hours, take a 90 minute break, then play it again in reverse for 4 hours.

Thats about what it was like here.

For Frances, play that first video in a loop for 17 hours.

Estimates are Nov 5 for power to be restored to our area.

Hey, bonus sig placement again

SO fucking glad to hear that everyone is okay.

Are folks in the Keys all right or are we going to have FL "refugees"?

Hello all

Just got back from the FEMA staging area. Picked up some ice, water and some food since the stores are mostly all closed for now.

The whole group of islands where we live was completely under water for a few hours during the second storm surge. I have photos in my phone but no way to get them out until cell service is restored. This was the biggest storm surge I've ever seen here, or anyone else I've talked with for that matter. Downstairs we got 2-4 feet of water in the house, depending on the room. Out in the street and out back the water was several feet deeper. Photos show the whole neighborhood under water, all houses looking like real stilt houses.

For now we have no cell service and no land line until last night, then it went out again and came back for awhile today, then went out again. Not sure when we'll have power or network services again. Local DSL and cable modem services are gone even with generators. Of course everyone is still cleaning silt out of their generators since they were submerged for hours too in most cases.

Just about every car on this street is ruined, shorted out by salt water. During the storm surge, some cars started up, some sounded their alarms, some drove a few feet on their own. One even caught fire. No one can rent a car since all rental cars were flooded too. People are flying to Tampa to rent cars and drive back down.

Right now we don't know when we'll have power again, they have to get all the houses in each grid inspected before powering on, since the houses can short out and burn like three houses did on the neighboring island over the last two days.

But hopefully we'll be back to normal soon, and I can get back to catching up with things I missed while we were offline. Our hosting servers are all fine, they're not located down here, so aside from me personally being a little unavailable, it should be business as usual for everyone.

I'll be back when I can. Anyone who needs me for anything, just shoot me an email or leave a message on ICQ and I'll try to check both of those whenever I can logon for a few minutes. I have to conserve battery power for now, and connecting via an old AOL dialup account isn't much fun anyway.

Simon

P.S. The board is faster without all the nice buttons, banners and avatars, but I'm looking forward to the full graphic experience again soon!

For those of you interested, FPL has a nice 2.8mb PDF that takes forever to display

http://fpl.com/storm/pdf/wilma_outage.pdf

Simon, did they ever connect the FPL link to the mainland or is Key West still using Diesel and their dual-fuel station?

I'm not sure about that one. We're actually located about 30 miles up US1 from Key West now. We used to live right in Old Town, and we were there for Georges, but now we're on the group of islands known as The Torches. As far as I know, the Keys doesn't directly receive power from FPL. Our local power comes to us via Keys Energy Services, which certainly may be buying its power from FPL. All I know at this point is that someone turned the power back on last night, and whoever they are, I'm damn glad they did.

This morning a roof tile, the very last one to do, fell on my hand and severed two tendons in my right hand.

I'm fine after having hand surgery by a hand specialist at Holy Cross. Kind of hard to use the computer with this big splint on. Doc says that next week they will put one on that is less restrictive.

Going to need a bit of physical therapy on the hand but they say I will make a full recovery.

Very sorry to hear that Cleo, and I hope your recovery is very quick. In the mean time pretend you're a surfer and get used to that one hand computer usage.

I hope Luna is back up and ready to take over your reviews.

Relax for a couple of days and get some rest. (yeah, I know... not likely)

I always wanted to learn to use my left hand to do things like mousing and writing and now I have proper motivation.

Wiping after a piss is surprisingly difficult using my left hand.

Terri, that is terrible, however, I am glad you have a good prognosis for recovery.

Hopefully you'll get power back -- lifting gas cans one handed is probably also difficult. Let me know if you need anything. Gas lines up here are down to 15-20 minutes so I can bring down 30 gallons of fuel if you need.

Holy Shit Cleo, did the Dr say if you would have a full recovery?

I've had a sliced tendon in my hand, so I know what kind of "fun" you have to look forward to.

Thanks for the offer

I've got a friend and her children staying with me so things should be ok.

I still have a few more days of generator fuel and I'm guessing that getting more in a few days should be no problem by then.

Not sure how long a hand stays in a splint for tendon surgery. I'm guessing not that long and nothing nearly as long as is with broken bones.

It's already driving me crazy. lol

Yeah full recovery.

Please tell me more of what to expect. This is a first for me. How long is the recovery? How long will I have to wear a splint? Anything else?

They used a candel to check their generator fuel. They are lucky that all that happened was that they lost the generator.

Sorry to hear about the injury Cleo... they say that the aftermath of a storm is often more dangerous than the storm itself... those tiles on your roof are NOT light things, as I am sure you know now...

take it easy and relax... the porn will make itself for a few days.

Woke up this morning with basic cable restored, so I finally see what the local news channels are saying happened. Got a look at the power outages on the mainland, and the long lines for gas. I was thinking about how Cleo has it worse than we do right now, and then I see the new posts here about that falling roof tile.

Best wishes for a fast recovery, Cleo. I had my hand, wrist and forearm in a cast, and I know it was hard to get used to doing some things one-handed for awhile.

I sliced the tendon in my middle finger just above the knuckle on my right hand, it did not completely sever, but I still had to go to therapy.

I had a full hand brace and was suppose to go to therapy for 6 weeks, after 2 sessions I got bored and didn’t go to anymore and then I took the hand brace off and taped my finger to my other fingers. I had no issues other then a few years later it got somewhat infected and I had a lump and with the scar tissue gave me a nasty looking scar, which I had cleaned out about 6 years ago, so it’s now just a scar.

The therapy was a lot of simple one handed task, and anything I could do with just the middle finger and thumb, tearing clay, rolling it in a ball, some muscle builders etc.

I would guess since yours was severed you will have at least 6 - 8 weeks of therapy.

Which tendons and how did it happen, you were just standing there and it fell on you?

Well been an interesting week here in Hollywood Fl.
We got hit pretty hard in my area, lost power finally mon morning at my condo along with running water...so I headed up to my sisters up in boca raton at the boca inlet.
She had no power either but at least had running water and every 2 hrs they had the emergency generator in her building running to run the elevators for a bit and give us a place to charge cell phones and the like, thank god for my car chargers.
Spent 5 hrs wed in line for gas and got it after spending 6 hrs till they closed for curfew the day before with me just 25 cars from the pumps...grrr.
got power back at my condo in hollywood (southern broward county just above miami) wed so packed up the whole hurricance crowd and moved them all to my place. Today was only 1hr wait in the gas line, and actually drove over to the aventura mall to get milk and fresh meat yesterday.
Latest reports have 2/3 of miami dade with power now, and over half of broward county lit up and close to half of palm beach county with power now so we are recovering.
Where my sister is in boca which is the southern part of palm beach county looks like another 2-3 weeks without power so she will be at my place for the duration or at least until her trip to guatemala on the 10th.
I still have neither dsl or regular phone in my condo, but my neighbors across the hall have their phones back so I borrow their line for dial up a lil to do the daily reports for all the commodities clients
I'm currently out in west boca raton where my partner in the commodity trading is and am on his high speed. He should be back from Seattle Tuesday so checking out his house since the power came up for him.
all in all there was very little damage to me or my family, we were lucky ones...just a bit of minor water.
Hopefully all will be back to normal within several weeks, as it gets a little better each day.
