Does anyone know how to import video from a DVD to iMovie9?

Does anyone know how to import video from a DVD to iMovie9? It's footage someone gave me of my son playing football. I'm trying to get it into iMovie to make a high light reel for him. Any suggestions? Been working at this all morning and can't figure anything out

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

You need to RIP the DVD to a Mov file.

I use Handbrake.
