Scrubbing is....

Ok, I admit it, I have been at this too long NOT to understand this, BUT I don't!

What exactly is scrubbing? If I have money available on my credit card, and I sign up for a membership someplace, a credit card company has the right not to allow the charge or what? And if so, HOW? And better yet, WHY?

|confused|

Why? Who knows...

Basically some companies scrub the transaction more checking various items out about the person using the card to be certain it is a legit transaction. While other processors only check to see if the funds are available and if they are then bingo, approved! Without checking address or whatever other shit they should be checking out.

What Ramster said.

I've gone to buy things on the web, hard goods, and my card was declined due to something setting off a red flag, my card is good, but they decline the sale for whatever reason. Maybe the merchant has had problems in the past, maybe it is an unusually purchase for me when they looked at my history, anything that sets off their security.

I could go and buy the same thing at a later time someplace else and it would maybe then go through.

The results for us and the paysite is loss of sales.

The card companies scrub differently at different times.

Thanks to you all! Makes more sense now. I thought they were only looking at balance available on the card and could not figure out how they could tell me NO to a purchase if my card limit had not been exceeded or my credit limit hadn't been shut off.

Mucho appreciated!
