Making DVDs

We just got a camcorder that loads the videos on my pc in .avi format. Anyone know the best way to get them on DVD? I'm a total, babe-in-the-woods noob with this stuff.

I use sonic dvd for my dvds in my store hun. Nice all around solution.

Theres lots of easy programs out there - even the old standard Easy CD/DVD creator will do it - HOWEVER (you knew this was coming) - if you want to add in things like scene menus add-ons etc - I would hit up RawAlex and get his input on some editing feature-rich stuff

Sonic dvd is good I hear. Also Roxio Videowave has capture features, dvd burn and more. And as Linkster said I think the standard Easy CD creator will do it too.

Sonic is good and most of their DVD burnign products are stable and reliable. I have tried a few that are not as reliable.

If you want to edit the stuff, add music, whatever... then you need an editor (I use adobe premiere pro, some people like Vegas Video or just go Mac). There are a number of lower end solutions depending on which way you are going. The higher end stuff will also let you encode your MPeg files yourself, which means if you only have 1 hour of video you can encode it really high quality and get a super hot looking DVD (becuase you can use most of the 4.7gig of space for that one hour, instead of for two hours that most people do).

There are also any number of packages cheap to somewhat reasonable that will allow you to pretty much burn directly from the camera, just plug it into the PC and stand back.

I was looking at Sonic. Someone suggested uLead as they have a free trial version, and I don't know enough about video to know what I want or don't want yet so I hate to just start buying software. That one hour/high quality dvd thing sounds promising though. I paid extra for the camera for better quality video (at least that's what the sales person said) so I'll definitely look into that too.

I had 10 DV I had to move to dvd. I tried a few differant softwares but they all had problems. Some would be blank video or slowed sound. At this point the only thing I found that works 100% on my dvd player and someone elses's along with inside my computer is Nero. And there are plenty of cracks out there for the demo but I dont recommend cracks lol.
