Swine flu?

So all the news and such and people getting freaked out. Is the Swine Flu outside of central Mexico just over hype by the news media?

I am following the news about it, in google maps http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...8,329.0625&z=1you can follow it also, i didnt know the first case was on 30 marz 2009. A big outbreak can be possible with the swine flu, we had more big out breaks of flu worldwide, i believe the worse was the spanish flu that time.
Spanish flu in 1918 (between the 20 million to 100 million deaths)
Aziatische flu in 1956 (about 1 million deaths)
Hongkong flu in 1900 and 1968 (about 1 Million deaths)

No its not, its an mutated flu virus, there is no cure yet, yes they are working on it, they only have some meds which will slow the virus from growing, but i think its good now that people are warned, warned if they where at those places in mexico, to keep an eye at theirself if they get or have the syptomes (or whatever the fuck you write that), that way it can be stopped

At a news briefing, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack took pains to repeatedly refer to the flu as the "H1N1 virus."

"This is not a food-borne illness, virus. It is not correct to refer to it as swine flu because really that's not what this is about," Vilsack said.

Israel has already rejected the name swine flu, and opted to call it "Mexico flu." Jewish dietary laws forbid eating pork.

The Paris-based World Organization for Animal Health also objected to the name, saying the virus contains avian and human components and no pig so far has been found ill with the disease.

yes i know that too, the deal is, this virus is transfeard from human to human, which was never bin the cease, it always went from animal to human, now its different, same like birthflu, it never went from bird to a human, but now it does, animals can carry different flu virusses, thats why they mutate, check the deal on pigs, pigs can carry several flu virusses, that made this virus named pig virus (they have to give it a name) normally it goes from pig to human, but not from human to human, and now it does, and yep israel also named it the mexican virus because a pig is ...hw you name it, same as for moslims...dirty? I am not worried about this flu, but i do follow it, all those people confirmed to have swine flu in all the countries have bin visiting mexico, the only concern is....they can infect other people, so the warning is good, try to grab the source to protect others and to prevent more infections, because i have to say, so many deaths in a short time?

On the bright side, if half the people in America die, I'll be able to get a free boat from somewhere. Maybe a small cabin cruiser. And then I can go fishing!

ah your evil! well in a bad case "only" 25% of the dutch people will get sick here and only 80:000 will die of the 17 million, so i think you will have bad luck "if" this will hit the usa bad, because i dont think it will, the countries are prepared now, so get ready to work your butt of till you die and maybe...maybe will get a small cabin cruiser for fishing, but then you still have to pay for it yourself

The CDC estimates 30k+ people die of "regular" flu a year, anyway. Bird flu, SARS, West Nile, Mad Cow Disease (not transmitted by a virus) didn't wipe out swaths of the population. We're still here. When we have something to be scared of we hit the reload button on Drudgereport and keep the television turned on. It's good for adverts.

Anyway, I've got a zombie epidemic to prepare for.

Apparently it's not too hard on us baby boomers who may have been exposed to a version of it when we were much younger.

ah yes i have read about the fact that this virus was on this world before, and they say the most deaths of this flu where between the 20 and 50 year old, well thats not what i have read on other sites, but then i still may say that those old baby boomers where to stupid to make a cure for it that time...it would have prevent alot of problems now, still a good thing is, we all know flu virusses are mutating every time, now money is getting pulled by all the countries to prevent shit like this in the future, all get money again to make new better flu protectionsbut all have to get a new rule, dont wait till it happens, but prevent it will happen!

where to begin ...? I just can't believe how BULLSHIT is out there on teh interwebz. Here I am, hunting for accurate and maybe even halfway scientific info - and about to pull my hair out when I really want to bitchslap damn near every journalist and keyboard warrior with a fucking blog.

FACTS found so far:
1. This is a new mutation of Influenza A (H1N1). Yes, Influenza A has been around forever, and H1N1 has been around for quite a while .. in fact about 4-5 years ago they exhumed bodies from the 1918 Influenza pandemic and ran DNA tests to determine it was A/H1N1.
2. Because this is a new mutation presenting new combinations of epitopes, current flu vaccines are useless. Of the FOUR antiviral medications currently developed, H1N1 has resistance genes to TWO of them, leaving only Tamiflu (R) and Relenz (R) to combat A/H1N1 strains.
3. Reports out of Mexico are contradictory and unclear as to whether the two previously mentioned antivirals are effective against this new permutation of A/H1N1. Even if it is effective, antivirals must be administered within 36-48 hours of symptom onset ... and most people wait an average 2-3 days before seeking medical attention for flulike symptoms.
4. This new A/H1N1 is transmitted from human-to-human contact like the common cold (rhinovirus) with incubation period listed from as short as 24-48 hours up to the more standard 3-5 days.
5. Symptoms are the standard influenza ones: fever, muscle aches, cough, runny nose/congestion.

Beyond these facts are unconfirmed reports and even wild speculation. I want to strangle the media. I'm not asking for the fucking DNA sequence on it, just some actual scientific FACTS.

Yes i agree about the bullshit around this issue, but facted, alot of people died within a month, and fact you wont die fast from a normal flu....this one will and can kill you, it all starts with a normal flu, the same sypthomes, now its up to you to go to a doc, with the warnings from the countries, people will know it can be worser then a normal flu,my point is........alot will think it will be a normal flu, but now with the warnings . they know better, they will get a check up sooner, and again dont compair this with a normal flu, because you wont die that fast from a normal flu.
Btw and here we go with different info, the info i read is: the swine flU: consist a part of the orginal swine flu, bird flu and a human flu, now on this part i do say its hard thati have to i read that egypt is going to kill every pig in their country, even animals do carry the diseases they dont have to be sick, but in holland they did the same that time with the bird flu, on this moment to many things and info are going around on the net, but you cant get around the fact that alot of people died within a month because of that so called" 5 years around" damn flu, name me an other year this flu hit so many deaths in a short time.

Stu, this IS influenza ... technically it is Influenza Type A (H1N1) which was originally a bird strain, but birds, pigs, and humans pass the influenza virus amongst the three species very easily (which is how it has elements of all three). There are other mammal species which can contract influenza as well, but for some reason influenza virus is very well-adapted to humans, birds, and pigs in particular.

Another flu that hit hard and fast when it emerged was H5N1, usually called "the bird flu" in Asia. In 1957 H1N1 hit and was called "the Asiatic Flu" and in 1967 H3N2 hit and was called "the Hong Kong flu".

Each time a new variation emerges that the population's immune systems do not recognize, it has the potential to be a pandemic and to kill quickly ... not just the usual children, elderly, and immunocompromised but otherwise healthy young adults via a "cytokine storm" which used to be misdiagnosed as secondary pnuemonia infection.

People often shrug off and say "Oh it's just the flu" without realizing that even in this day and age, the influenza virus kills between 200,000 and 500,000 people around the world. Also, there is no such thing as "normal" flu, because Influenza is broken down into three types (A, B, and C - which does not affect humans currently) and then broken down by the chemical composition of the viral envelope (H1N1, H3N2, H5N1, etc) and then broken down further by specific DNA-typed strains which I won't bother to attempt to list because that system gets complex fast. The "short" name for this one right now is Influenza A/Mexico/2009 (H1N1) and next to no one has immunity against it (somatic hypermutation suggests there will be a very small percentage who have immunity due to random genetic luck).

I heard that it's a bad idea to give a rim job to someone who has the piggy flu or snowball a load with them. Not sure how accurate that is.
