I ordered an IPod Touch
I just ordered an iPod Touch. Does anyone have one? I thought about getting an iPhone but I have a hate on for the Canadian cell phone carriers.
Plus, no one calls me anyway. How does Safari work? Is using the web browser on such a small screen a pain in the ass? Sometimes I just want to quickly check my email over wi/fi without having to lug around the laptop. The iTunes integration seems like a plus too. And I have a thing for watching videos. That babe from M.I.A is hot. Any pros/cons from experience? Is it basically an iPhone without the cell phone functionality?

I just upgraded from the first generation iPhone to the 3G iPhone. The Touch is basically the same thing without a phone and a few other features.
Safari works great. The small screen really isn't an issue because of the way to can pinch and squeeze the pages. About the only real issue is no support for Flash or JAVA. Mail also works great. Watching movies on the iPhone is surprisingly good. I rarely carry my laptop with me anymore because the iPhone does mail and web browsing so well. |

I'm hoping I can leave the laptop behind and rely more on a pocket device too. The pinch/squeeze functionality looks really good. When I read you could use Safari that pretty much sold me.
A lot of the time I find myself sitting down and running the laptop just to use iTunes and to watch videos. I killed a MBP battery in under a year using it this way. But Apple is the first company whose products I feel comfortable enough to buy without researching the hell out of them. So this should be a pretty solid product.

Even with the iPod Touch, aren't you forced to deal with the Canadian cell phone carriers for a data plan?

There is no data plan with the touch. It only uses wifi to get online so if you aren't within wifi range you can't get online. That is the real advantage to the iPhone as it is always online.

Ah... I was not aware that wifi was a must for the Touch.

Touch is great for folks who don't want a monthly bill.

I bought my wife an iPhone. This thing hasnt left her side in 2 months. She uses it for anything and everything... she even likes it in vibrate mode haha.
I do think the plans are rather expense though, but worth it. |

Kepp your wifi function off if you dont plan to get online, saves battery power by 10 to 15 percent. More music time for you

Thanks for the tip. My LG Chocolate phone (garbage) stays charged a lot longer if you turn on airplane mode (which nullifies the actual capability to use it as a phone by turning off all its wireless and mobile capability!) That, and bluetooth. It's a horrible phone.
