2257 Compliance Statement
Do link list owners look at, or care about 2257 statments on submitted free sites?
I've been doing some research into 2257 and I'm still a bit confused about whether the statement is needed only on the index page, or on every page of a site? I looked at some random free sites and every one seems to do it differently, so that didn't help me much. Then I looked at a few link lists and I'm still confused: LOR - couldn't find a 2257 statement, but did see RTA/ASCAP labels. Smutgremlins - 2257 statement on index page only. Cleo's - 2257 statement on every page. If I only put a 2257 statement on the index page, could that cause a site to be rejected? Thanks! |

The original 2257 reg required that the statement be on every page, but then during the open comment period it appeared that the DOJ was willing to go with index page only, and now it seems the whole law is up in limbo so I'm not sure what's what. The thing is that I don't want to put an extra outgoing link on each page if I don't have to. |

If I'm only allowed three outgoing links per page, why waste one on a 2257 notice?
I realize that manually reviewed link lists might allow the additional outgoing link, but what about link lists that use scripts to check submissions? |

Your 2257 link does not count against the three outgoing links rule.
I actually doubt than any serious LL would use scripts for reviewing, as far as I know they all check the submitted sites manually. I am submitting to as many as 81 LLs for some niches (9 mirrors of 9 recips each) and I never had a FS rejected for having 3 sponsorlinks + the 2257 link. I did have one rejected for having the 2257 opening in a new window, so make sure not to do that |

I didn't realize that most link lists would check sites manually. I just assumed that they would use scripts, or at least use a script to check for outgoing links, image size, etc. to screen out sites that don't follow the basic rules. I learn something new every day... |
