Counters & click-thru scripts installed on MY server, Allowed?

Are sites with counters and click-thru scripts allowed? I know that third-party counters are not allowed, but these scripts will be installed on *MY* servers and I have full control over them. I'm trying some new sponsors and would like to know how they are doing.

Yea Mag...as Surfn mentioned...you're probably not going to find many that will accept sites with counters...3rd party or otherwise. It's been abused way too much in the past. You should be able to gather the info you seek from your server stats.

No counters, no way, no how. Sorry man, black letter rule. Click through scripts are OK with me, but you must use mouseovers to show the surfer (and me) where they're going. Links like "yourdomain.com/go.php?0453948" do not make me feel warm and fuzzy. Sounds like a lot of trouble to me.

Bear in mind that the top freesite builders in the biz find their server stats sufficient

It's always said that counters are not accepted as submitters don't have control on them. As they are on my servers they are fully controlled.they won't install trojans or open popups!
Those that want to abuse, will always find there ways.with scripts or without. and those who care for the LL they submit to, and their traffic, won't try to screw them. And I think the LL that I regularly submit to, knows that I respect their LL and also their surfers.

Servers stats won't give you which pages get more traffic, what pages get which keywords and more specific details that I need.

Click-thru are a must when I'm trying a new sponsor. And yup, I use mouse-overs when using them

Get a decent host then. Mine do. Gives me summaries and a 300 page plus report if I want it (which is never!).

Do you get the referrers and keywords for every page? per page not for the whole domain. if your host gives you this stats then shoot me a pm with the links.and don't forget to use your ref links if they offer an aff

If you have "<script>" on a page, you are done right there. If you are using java of any sort, most sites won't bother to look what java it is, they will just turf you out. If you are not getting stats with your hosting, then you hosting isn't worth what you are paying. Flying blind is not a good plan.

Get your host to run this for you. Its what I run and I am my host...lol. What you get depends what options you run and if you want to you can retrieve each individual hit but it takes shitloads of space on the server if you do.

the free sites will be built in html and I'll use php in the html using
AddType application/x-httpd-php .html
in my htaccess.

You don't cheat, just track your stats.

Some sort of click through tracking is vital.
I can't control if a sponsor reports most my sales, I have to trust them on that...and assume they are keeping the skim low.
But with at least half of my galleries I no longer send my hits directly to the sponsors hoping they are giving true reports of how many hits I am sending them. I send my traffic to a tour hosted on my servers, and then am able to track EXACTLY how many surfers click through to the sponsors sign up pages.
It is amazing how with the exact same gallery, several mirrors will show up to 35% clicking the sponsor links and get to my hosted page, but on the mirrors of that same page that send the traffic directly to the sponsor, some sponsors stats show only 5% of my gallery visitors go on to them.
Also by tracking my exit traffic to the sponsors sign up page from my hosted tours I have found even then with many sponsors only report to me 25% of that traffic on average....though I have proof the surfer clicked the link going to them.

Guess what? I stop sending those sponsors any traffic, for if they are going to misreport how many surfers I send them by 400% then they will definately not report most of my sales.

I understand that with a major player such as greenguy or linkster the sponsors will not screw with their traffic as much, but they absolutely do with a small webmaster such as I who perhaps only sends them 2k hits a day.

My knowing how much traffic I am really sending them, and how much of that they actually report to me at least gives me an idea which sponsor will actually report the sales I make.

First off - you'd be surprised to know that we actually get the exact same treatment with our traffic that you experience - and I drop sponsors almost every day because of it.
One thing to be very careful of though is understanding that there is a huge difference between the surfers clicking to a sponsor "first page" and letting the page load all of the way to be counted, and loading your page and being counted as a click thru for your stats.
Also be aware that there are many sponsors that list "first page hits" on their stats that really are counting surfers that click to the second page from the first page - talking to the sponsor reps usually doesnt help as they dont understand the programming of their own stats

I usually have to get with the program owner or his hired programmer to get the real story
