Question Best email program?

Not really a business query per se, but I'd really like to know which email programs adult webmasters are using, particularly for submissions that require domain-related email addies. A couple of long-term users have recommended Thunderbird. Are there others worth considering?

I personally use Windows Live Mail, like it and recommend it.

I think you can attach your domain emails to gmail, but I'm not 100%. That's what I use for most of my stuff. Or outlook.

Thanks for the input Giggles and AJ. I've been using the old Outlook one for years, despite its downsides, so will probably opt for Live Mail. For me, making these simple decisions is one of the worst parts of setting up a new computer.

I feel the same. I began with Hotmail associated to Outlook, then Outlook only, then Windows Mail and now Windows Live Mail.

Yes, you can set up different "froms" in Gmail pretty easily. Plus Gmail has gotten really good at filtering spam.

I use Mac's Mail app for personal emails but I've used Eudora for business email since 1996 or so and haven't ever found a good reason to migrate away from it.

+1

Gmail may be da bomb, but it's not appropriate for doing business correspondence.

As for spam control, you can't beat SpamArrest.

hmmm... I guess I'd written Eudora off as 'OLD' and Thunderbird nearly the same. But if there's webmasters still using these with less problems than the newer email programs I'm interested in hearing the big reaqsons why

Why? Eudora still does everything I need it to do, so no reason switch.

I'm not aware of many email programs that are any newer than Thunderbird, unless you're also counting web based services like gmail.

Web based email may be more convenient if you access your email from multiple devices, but I'm just not comfortable with my saved private correspondence sitting on a server somewhere that can be hacked. If it's only archived on my own PC it's far less vulnerable.

I can still check for new email from my phone, laptop, etc. I just can't access the saved email unless I'm on my main PC.

I use mac mail with spamsieve and gmail. Works great. Then iphone and the ipad are attached to some core accounts. All my calendaring is done through gmail and I use the exchange option on my iphone and ipad to attach to calendars, email, and contacts.

This system for me has made my life so much easier to manage.

I've been using Eudora for over 12 years. When I started using it I was working with Windows 3.1. Since then I've changed a dozen of computers with any kind of os.

Eudora is a very simple program, so every time I move on a different computer I just copy the Eudora folder on the new pc. That's all I need to do to have the mail program with the full archive and all the settings working on a new computer. So, in my mail program I still have the mail messages I've saved over 10 years ago.

No reason to change !

Thumbs up

I did use Eudora from the beginning up until I upgraded to Windows 7. There's only so long you can go before you can continue using a program that is no longer updated or supported.

Thunderbird for me now.

I've used the original version of Eudora since 1996 but I plan to check out the Open Source version (which uses Thunderbird code). I'm running Mac OSX Snow Leopard right now but when I upgrade to OSX Lion it seems I won't be able to use the classic version of Eudora any longer.

From the page at http://www.eudora.com/faq/OSX_Lion.html

Quote:
Important Announcement about Mac Eudora and Apple OS X 10.7 "Lion"

In Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion", Apple has removed support for "Rosetta". It is Rosetta that allows Mac Eudora to continue to run under Mac OS X (up to and including OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard"). Once you upgrade to OS X 10.7, Mac Eudora will no longer function.

Let's repeat that:

Mac Eudora WILL NOT run under Mac OS X 10.7 and later.

Before upgrading to OS X "Lion", be sure to transfer all of your mail to another email client as you will no longer be able to access your mail using Mac Eudora.

So long and thanks for all the fish...
--end public service announcement.

I'm also still using Eudora (currently version 7) with over a decade of email backed up.

I check my most important accounts mobile, but still download it all to whatever computer has Eudora on it.

Is anyone using Eudora OSE 1.0 ?
