Morning All,

Now that I have seen some submissions I can make clear some rules and guidelines that I want to see in sites submitted to DangerDave.com.au.

Overall the quality of what I have seen has been fairly good.

I have not rejected anything yet.

.. but there are some niggly things that I just hate... and I don't want to see them.(See next post)

So if you have a prob, or have a question - post it here..

There are a few things I have seen in the sites submitted recently that I would like to address.. some are just little things, and some are errors or tricks I just think aren't good/fair/or sensible.

1. Put a trailing slash on the end of your domain.

This is a really simple one...

http://www.yourdomain.com - this is wrong

http://www.yourdomain.com/ - this is right

2. Use the right case in the description.

Captialising the first letter of every word of the description may be right for some sites.. but for many including mine dont do that...

So look at the LL you are submitting and use the cAsE that each uses.

Using the 'wrong' case just gives the reviewer a reason reject you.

Other things that are just wrong IMO........

3. Underlined Links vs Non-Underlined Links

I am seeing this more and more and it has always been an INSTANT rejection reason...

'underlining' sponsor links and 'not underlining' navigation links is just deceptive bullshit, and if that is how you have to sell.. you should give up now...

4. The enter link is the smallest text on the page.. (or nearly the smallest)

Again this is just a deceptive tactic.. and has been a rejection reason for many years..

5. Enter link is the last thing on the page... ( or nearly the last)

This is usually tied in with No.4

A CLEAR , VISIBLE and UNOBSTRUCTED enter link is a standard requirement.

6. Gallery Navigation Thumbnails not linked

Ummm I have never understood why people do this... There is a text link to the gallery on the main page, and there is a thumbnail too.. but the thumb is not linked???

Link the thumb as well.. it is what people click on!

7. Gallery and Enter links not visible at 1280x1024

This one I have believe is always a fundamental... Have clear navigation that doesn't require scrolling , hunting, and close examination. I am seeing HUGE headers, and ads that occupy an entire screen.

8. Enter OR something else

Like No. 4 and no. 5 this one is just a simple requirement... A CLEAR , VISIBLE and UNOBSTRUCTED enter link - not a question about wether you want to enter or go somewhere else.....

Just give them an ENTER link.....

So these are some of the things we have noted, and are likely to start policing in submission shortly..

Hi DD,

I can see that I violate 3, 5 and 7 with these two new sites I submitted, So my problem is the enter link(or my main problem). I guess they can be used as good examples of what not to do with the "Enter Link"/Gallery links.

The two sites are:

I decided to try and make some graphical headers, gallery links and enter links, to make my sites look a bit more personal and I believe that they've done that, they do not look as boring as my old style all text sites. But then I did not think of underlining the "Enter" and "Gallery" graphic text.

To overcome higher screen resolutions that I assume people use today I also went for larger text for everything, which then again makes the adds take up more space than if I had used font size 2. Due to the wider page size the text needs to be quite big to be easily readable to the visitors, if I had used font size 2 I would have 30-50 words per line which is terrible.

Placing the enter link at the bottom of the page is just something I've always done, not to decieve the surfers, but I have always figured they were used to see the enter link at the bottom of the page since I see that on almost all free sites.

I hope that with the next couple of sites I build will be able to be used as good examples of what a site should look like to get listed.

Thanks for pointing out those things DD, it is very helpfull.

I do not want to spend hours building a free site to have it rejected. When my sites get rejected I usually feel like it has been a waste of time trying my best to make a good looking site and then not beeing able to drive traffic to it. When starting up(again) that is a blow in the guts since getting traffic is essential to make money.

I will not reconstruct these two as it would take just as long as building a new site that will get rid of the "niggly" things. But I will look at the sites you've already listed and tidy them up.

Following questions are in regards to the sites posted by Sodo:

Since the enter link is a graphic that matches the site title, is that a violation of the Underlined Links vs Non-Underlined Links?

If the enter links were just under the recip table instead of the last thing on the page, would that be OK with rule 5?

Does rule number 7 means no vertical scrolling to get to the enter or gallery links?

I've never understood that either, but I've been doing it since I was told some LL's would consider a linked thumb as a blind link.

Regarding linking the thumb or not, and being rejected some places for doing it... I think we need to be clear that what DangerDave was referring to was linking a thumb that's located adjacent to the gallery text link, to that same gallery. So it there are two thumbs with text links to galleries under them on the main page of the free site, he'd like to see the thumbs linked too, not just the text under them (and he likes when those gallery links are underlined if sponsor links are underlined).

Linking thumbs on the main page to other things, besides the two galleries I mean, could get you rejected since they'd almost certainly fall under the 'blind link' rules.

..and if some linklist is rejecting you for using it as a an internal link to a gallery and calling it "blind" they need their head clunked against the wall!

Not too bad... the big header is IMO superfluous, and just extends the page... A header half that size would make the site "look" better IMO

9. Flash embedded movies...

I personally don't see the big rush to flash as a necessity or a good thing.. but I can move with the times...

My problem with them is that sometimes they are not 'expandable' or 'adjustable' as a movie in a 'player' is... As a surfer that just freakin annoys me..

10. Compression/Quality of content

I have seen a couple of sites where the content is just poor... over compressed, or badly compressed.. Yep I know sometimes that is all the dumb-ass sponsor will give you.... but there is plenty of good quality content around, and I don't think we/you should be using crappy content. Change sponsors!

I will change that font for the http://www.hornyebonygirl.com/hornyblackgirls/ site and Cleo rejected it because of the almost unreadable font so it's best to get that sorted.

Both sites was submitted a couple of days ago so I hope to see them on your site in the future unless of cause something is not right with the main and gallery pages. :o)

My "Good Site"(http://www.hornyebonygirl.com/perfectblackass/) mentioned in this thread too was submitted yesterday, so I hope to see that one as well.

Well I wont bother you anymore, I think you have made your points clear...to me anyway. Thanks for using my sites to point out a few things. :o)
