Ponygirl, you still use dogs? Gotta get one of them new-fangled skee-idoos I like the cold and the snow though, time to wax up the ski's, load up the wineskin and head for the hills!! Gives you a lot more respect for a good wood burning stove and a warm brandy

Supposed to be 89 degrees here today, and the girls will have their out getting them all tanned. I'm not sure I could even find cold weather clothing in a store anywhere near here (unlike all the stores at Cleo's malls).
CNN is now reporting over 300,000 people without power in Wuppern NY and blaming it all on the leaves still on the trees. Has the Super Bowl party ever had to be canceled due to snow closing the airport(s)?

You need a lot of snow at one time to close an airport. I have flown into Syracuse after a big snowstorm and we went down the runway kind of sideways We had one Christmas Eve a few years ago when we got almost 4 feet. Even my 4x4 F350 had a really hard time plowing that crap. The local police department forced me to start plowing the village streets..I have to admit, that was a little cool It also took me an hour to go 2 miles into the next town without plowing. But, plowing that night and day or not, I got stuck several times and I never get stuck. I'm the guy my friends and Children call when they are stuck. |

We got a little snow here and there, just light flurries. When I saw the radar last night and saw the bands of lake effect snow on the lake heading in a general NE direction, I thought to myself... Greenie is probably getting slammed.
Simon, it's actually less likely for this to happen in Feb, because of the nature of lake effect snow. Lake effect snow comes from cold "Canadian" air (the Canadians probably call it Artic air, but we blame Canada ) blowing across the warmer lake and picking up moisture as it goes. Then it hits land and gets shot upwards where it turns into cloulds and then snow. For this to happen in Feb, we would need to have a pretty warm winter resulting in the lake still being wide open and not covered with ice. Which does happen and it when it does, it can be nasty. The only time lake effect snow stops is when the winds calm or change direction, so it can go on for hours to days. So I ususally root for a nice cold Dec, and early Jan. There... all you never wanted to know about lake effect snow.

Yea Power
Just came back on - after being out for 26 hours. The estimate that 400,000 homes/business's were without power - what a mess. We got hardly any snow here - maybe 2 inches (and it melted by noon) but some places got 1-2 feet of that heavy wet snow & trees collapsed all over the place, taking out power lines as they fell. I'm exhausted - g'night everyone |
