Strange Error When Trying to Editing

I just installed WP on a new blog and Im trying to edit the side bar/ footer, etc and I am receiving this error.

Sorry, can’t edit files with “..” in the name. If you are trying to edit a file in your WordPress home directory, you can just type the name of the file in.

I have no idea what this is referencing.
I can FTP the files in to m PC and then back again, but it'd be nice to be able to use the online theme editor.

I am not sure as I hadn't got that error before but I would suggest you to maybe give your blog's theme files permissions and see if they are writable.

Damn Jester I've had that problem before and I've been racking my brain since first reading this thread, trying to remember which site it was and what I did to resolve it.

Usually when the file permissions are off, you can still get to the editor and there is a 'codex' message along the bottom. I will see if changing the permissions works or not.



Here is something interesting...when I FTP onto my PC, and open the file to edit it, I get a "read only" error. Maybe thats it. ...Ill report back later when I mess with it.
