Moving to Arizona
Our Arizona / Vegas vacation was a real eye opener for Mark and I. We especially like the Kingman AZ area, and we plan on building a new home there. Early next year is the plan. Here in way upstate NY, our housing market is not that bad, so hopefully we'll get lucky. We have a few things to do to get the house ready, and should have it up for sale by the end of next month. We live in a desirable school district so hopefully that will help. We shall see ....
We're wondering what took us so long to go to Las Vegas. We spent 8 days there, and had a great time. We spent three nights at Wynn, and 5 nights at Mandalay Bay. I was recognized more times on this trip as "lorsha", then I had been in the last 9 years combined running our site. Was a lot of fun talking to people about my site. And not to mention it didn't hurt sales while we were away. The topless club Moorea at Mandalay was quite nice. We spent about every afternoon there, hehe. Was so refreshing to get rid of those tan lines naturally. We saw a couple of Cirque shows, did the luau at Imperial, Fantasy at luxor, and saw Kevin James. I just love that guy! Mark loves his blackjack. He was up a couple grand after a few days, but ended up giving it back .... naturally. Sunny days every day. WOW! What a concept. First day back here, and surprise - cloudy and raining. What a shocker. The nice part about Kingman AZ is that they are about 5,000 feet in elevation, and they stay on average 10-15 degrees cooler then surrounding areas. 97 is the highest average temperature in July / August. And they have all 4 seasons as well. We just love that. Nice upcoming area, with a lot of new home construction going on. We can build a nice place for $400k there, that would cost more like $800k+ in most of the Northeast. We will not miss the northeast at all. We really won't. We just wish we had thought about this move 10 years earlier. LOTS to catch up on work wise. Time to get to it.

Sounds like you found a great place to live. I can tell you that living in Canada, I often wish I could move somewhere in my country where it is warm at Christmas. Vancouver is the best it gets but it rains there all the time. Hopefully you find a buyer for your current house despite the current real estate mess.

As a relocated NYer.. the only advice I can give is, whatever you've been told about the "wonderful" lifestyle..you won't really know until you've spend 2 or 3 weeks here in July/August.

It was 106-110F every day we were in Vegas. I loved it! And where we'll be moving to, they rarely see 100f at anytime, due to elevation.

Congrats Lorsha. Arizona is a nice place to do your move. You'll love it. My mom just bought the house next door to my sister. My poor brother - in - law hehehe. They want us to move out there but the surf just isn't that good in Az. So until they can make air conditioned indoor wavepool. With a glassy 4-6' and light offshore breeze I'm a Californian

Actually I find 110 in Arizona more comfortable then 85 in South Carolina. I'd love to be in Arizona. Of course you don't want to sit on a the hood of your car at those temperatures.

I just came in from walking the dog The sky's beautiful, yesterdays rain clouds have passed, replaced with puffy clouds with lots of red and pink highlights, the rain clouds will be back this afternoon to cool things off.
I live in a high desert valley ringed by mountains, the mountain range a quarter mile to the west of us is snow capped most of the winter then stays green all summer long. A huge wilderness area takes up most of the valley it's to the north of us. The view to the North East is spectacular two high dessert plateaus (John McCain's ranch is behind the first plateau) then the red rocks of Sadona. The Verde River is about a half mile to the east of us. My wifes Aunt spent two weeks exploring Northern Arizona before deciding on this town, she did good. I collect rocks for a hobby and the wife and I have probably been to 99 percent of the towns in Northern Arizona looking for rocks in the last three years. We have also spent several days in the Kingman area looking for Arizona fire agate and banded onyx (we have not only seen the beware of wild mule signs we have seen the wild mules in the hills just west of Kingman.) As much as I like Cottonwood if we were to stay in Arizona we would move up to Payson, the White Mountains are breathtaking. If you had spent more time exploring Arizona I fucking guarantee Kingman would not be your first choice of towns to relocate to.

You all should move to Florida and enjoy the lovely seasonal hurricanes, humidity, and heat.

When my daughter finishes high school in 8 years (she's only 10) I plan to live in Florida for the winters or a least the harsh months Like January until April 1. I hate the snow and do not ski, snowmobile or anything so goodbye to all that and hello to warmth and golf. |

Kingman is a little remote for my tastes, but the area is nice. and Laughlin, NV is only about 30-40 mi to the west and makes for a great getaway. I'm sure you'll love living out west compared to upstate NY. Good luck!
