self-hosted blogger vs. wordpress
I use blogger for my blogs, but have the blogs hosted at my own domains. I've tried to do some reading, and found lots of negative comments on using blogger, but these comments all apply to free hosted blogger blogs.
I was thinking installing wordpress, but I'm not sure I should. What do people think? Should I change? I mean, blogger could stop allowing adult sites using the script maybe(even if you use your own hosting like me), but what's wordpress to stop from saying: "hey you can't use my free script anymore". I'd like your opinion on this before I start doing the change-over to something like wordpress. Thanks in advance |

Why would you leave control of any part of your business in the hands of others?
Wordpress is open source.

yes the "control in hands of others" part is what got me thinking
I've installed wordpress on another domain to try out and it seems great up until now, I'll think I'll try it for a week and if I still like it as much as I do now I definetely will change my other blogs to it. I see they actually have an "import from blogger" feature as well, which will make my life so much easier, if it works ok that is... |

I've never tried to import from blogger, but if it's as easy as importing from live journal you shouldn't have any problems

Yep, you should always have 100% control over your projects. I just would never dump that much time and effort into something that I didn't control completely.

I hope so Tart!
And yes Mr.Blue, excellent point, it is the reason that got me thinking. If I wanted to get serious I couldn't depend on blogger, even though I had it hosted myself. And sometimes it doesn't even load correctly(blogger), you have great inspiration for a post and you can't login! My first thoughts when starting to use it were: "It's the google thing, so maybe you get more google hits by using their thing". But it didn't do much extra... Getting to know wordpress now, and I'm pretty much loving it. Already used a plug-in for dofollow allowing the dofollow trackbacks, but the plug-in system also works pretty easily. End of the week I'll put one of my other two blogs over to wordpress, and then I think my third one also when that's done. I see a lot of good threads from boogie about trackbacks, tut's etc, but they're all from 2005. Is the blogging activity decreasing that much around here? |

Yeah, you're also losing traffic to whatever domain you're hosted on. Is it really worth the pennies a month that you'll pay in a month for hosting to leak traffic, PR, and who knows what else to your free host?
The answer is no. |
