Sleepy Tuesday 21st February and Ecchi wonders why he starts these threads.

OK, so I'm starting this thread, but I have nothing interesting to say, so no idea why I am bothering. Today will be another day of work and dialysis, and I think I have posted that message before (several times).

Hey, I just ate some garlic bread (yesterday I got a load cheap from Lidl - a discount German supermarket near the hospital), perhaps that is interesting??????

I do love garlic bread but at over 200 calories per bun, I tend to stay away from it.

Speaking of calories... weighed myself this morning and I was 165.5 which is .5 less pounds than my goal so Fitbit no longer has me on a 250 calorie deficient.

Still in disarray with starting my new income source driving for Uber. It is probably going to be a week or so before things settle down. Spent a good part of yesterday car shopping which is about as much fun as hot poker up one's ass. Looks like I'm buying a 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid. took it for a test drive and loved it. Really love that it gets 49 miles to the gallon and has tons of safety features and Carplay.

Good Morning

Lots of errands to do which is taking up most of my days lately. In between those it's mindless grunt work filling a database.

Have a good one

Afternoon!

I've had some sort of flu/stomach virus the last 2 days (much different than the long term one I had before) so I've been kinda taking it easy.

We have Lidl here in Finland too. We stay away from it after getting improperly handled frozen food there a couple of times (lobster and steak). My husband has never had lobster and was so curious. This one was spoiled, so he is still waiting. Pricing is about the same as our nearby market so, we don't miss it. And I love garlic bread, but it doesn't love me so I don't touch it or anything else with gluten.

Just a normal snowy day for me, shoveling porn. 10 more days to Michael Monroe

I have no choice. Finances at the moment force me to buy from the cheapest, and over here for most things (but not all) that is Lidl. Although in their defense, I will say that I actually prefer their baked beans and instant coffee to any other brand, plus back when I was allowed peanuts they did a battered peanut that was to die for (sadly kidney problems are so bad at the moment that I am not allowed peanuts until potassium and phosphate levels in my blood drop).

Also, in a test by some foodie magazine, their free range chicken came second in a taste test of all major chicken retailers. (But avoid their cheapest non-free range chicken, I tried it once while looking after a friend's dogs and it was so horrible I gave it to the dogs - and the dogs refused it. You have got to go along way down the path of horrible before dogs will say to you "Naah, you're alright mate, I'll think I'll skip dinner tonight.")

Wow, Germany, England, Finland and Belgium - those guys really are going for world domination. Probably not a good thing, remember the last time a German guy tried to take over all Europe!

Our Lidl is pretty small, with very few food choices. I honestly think they have more bins of non-food items than food. Produce looked, well, sad. I was so excited to see we had one here in this town, but the last time I tried to do regular shopping there, I found only a few items we normally used. The rest was imported or well, strange. For a small country, Finland does produce a lot of its own food, like potatoes, carrots, pork, chicken, milk, and cheese. They did not even have Finnish potatoes or carrots!! I have heard they have changed it and have more local items. We do have to drive to that store, where my husband can walk to our local which saves time and money. The other big plus for us is that this chain and the other chain (also walking distance. I live in a small town with 5 grocery stores!!) have been in price wars. We get good, fresh, and local at pretty darned good prices.

Our favorite trick though is to go over to the local prepared foods and sausage maker. They operate a butcher shop that is heavenly, with anything that is prepared done right there. The ground beef there is cheaper and fresher than what we get in the grocery store, and... hand cut tenderloin steaks to our specifications, about 10 pounds per kilo (roughly figure $5/pound for the US folks).

Lidl is all over the EU. We don't have Aldi, but I do hear they are about the same.
