If you signup incorrectly, you will not be covered. if you are a company, don't cheap out and signup as an individual. Your company websites won't be covered.

*sigh*

So bottom line is if I'm a webmaster I pay a flat $300. Does that cover all my domains or am I going to end up being a webmaster for each of my 100 domains?

more than a few people from this board have talked to them on the phone and not one has been quoted $300... if all your domains are in your name then you are an individual, if you have your domains under a business name like "such and such marketing" then go by the revenue brackets... the FSC is not going to keep your name off of the "master list" for not paying the right amount but you have to make sure that you have the right name or business listed on the "master list" becuase the DOJ is going to have the name from whois info or whereever they get it and if that name isn't on the list then you are open for inspections... if you really want to be sure that you are safe they opened a hotline just for new memberships (800) 681-0403 call them and ask what you should be paying

The revenue scale thing totally freaks me out. Like being charged more for dinner at a restaraunt because I am using a platinum card instead of a gold card.

well this way us poor bastards can still eat at the same restaurant, it isn't perfect by far

and a really good article on all of this especially the comments at the bottom by all of the prominent "porn" lawyers

one other intersting tidbit too while I am online that i haven't seen mentioned....

One stipulation in the agreement between FSC and the DOJ is that
FSC will not engage in solicitation of new members prior to the 2 PM
Saturday deadline.

that is why they are not being more vocal on this whole subject, and the DOJ does not want us banding together to fight them, the less the better in their eyes

I'm reading this info on another board (sorry to reference it here), where someone has them on the phone giving answers. I thought some people here might need this info.....

Word is that if you join FSC as an individual, that your sites will not be covered in the settlement (lol, but you will be, which makes a TON of sense). You have to get the webmaster/corporate membership to be protected. Call them back if you need to "correct" your membership.

Also, they need ALL your domains/DBAs and you need to email them because the online form only has space for one.

And I STILL say it's extortion.

The DOJ will submit any entity it intends to inspect to a Special
Master who will then check the entity’s name against a sealed and
confidential FSC membership list. The Special Master will be appointed by
the Court, with the consent of the parties, and will be under a specific
obligation to maintain the confidentiality of the FSC membership list.
A master list of members will be submitted to the Special Master
on Wednesday June 29, 2005, and will include all FSC members as of 2:00
p.m. Pacific Standard Time, Saturday June 25, 2005. At no time will the DOJ
have direct access to the FSC membership list, which will remain under seal.
All FSC members should advise the FSC office of all of their DBAs
(Doing Business As Statements) by Monday, June 27, 2005, so that the master
list will be as complete as possible.

whatever board you are reading from IS WRONG... the DOJ cannot inspect a website for proper documents, only the individual or company running that site... the deal covers ALL FSC members... that is from their newsletter and there are no stipulations to the type of your membership to be covered and no mention of all the websites you own/run... and as for extortion call you local attorney and see what they will "extort" from you just to be on retainer in case you need to call them

Ok. I was just reporting what I had read because I know it is important to a lot of people. Obviously there is confusion about the issue, and time is running out for people to double-check on their status. This is something one would want to be sure about, no?

YES!! if you have questions call them! but the mis-information being spread around is getting out of hand... don't listen to anythng you hear on a board, don't listen to anything i say, ask for yourself so that you are 100% sure

When I called the lady asked me what my profession was. I said I was a webmaster. I paid $50.

What type of 'protection' do I get when I join FSC? If everyone was legal, why pay the FSC up to 300 bucks in the first place? Is it not the same as just shout out Hey, there's something fishy with my sites, or am I missing something?
