This is kind of an "on" Off topic.

At CES both XM and Sirrus were pretty well represented even tho O & A were ragging on Sirrus for having a "phone booth" their booth was actually maybe only 2-10' squares smaller than XM.

What i failed to understand is that THIS the biggest week in Consumer Electronics, why couldn't they UP his (howard's) start date and have him at the show for at least 1 day. I mean it would have wiped XM's ass and the publicity would have been huge. Whoever dropped that ball should be whipped with 44DD's. For the 45 minutes we were at O & A in the XM booth at least 30 of them were bashing Sirrus. I'm sure Howard could have equalled that or surpassed it and for sure MORE publicity has been about his switch to Sirrus than anything XM has done.

Big Biz.. go figure.

Like him or not, Opie and Andy are no competition to Howard Stern That is, as far as followers. I really don't like any of the shock jocks. I am more of a Bob and Tom type of guy. I bought Sirius for my husband for Christmas and eventhough our version in Canada is quite different than you get in the US, it's still a million times better than regular fm.

I weighed the differences between XM and Sirius before I bought - XM had better hardware but Sirius had better stations. My husband is all about the sports channels and Sirius had what he most wanted to hear.

No Howard Stern in Canada though

Yes I do, I had been listening to a few of their cds as I work out and realized how long it's been since I've heard them at all that I got laughing so hard I misstep on the tread mill and almost took a bite of the console.

When/*IF* Bob and Tom ever go to XM or Sirrus or whoever that will be the day I get it, I listen to the music choice station on tv when I'm board with CNNHLN during the day, and most times when I drive I either listen to nothing or a cd. I’m just not a "dj" fan at all on local radio and hate commercials even more, O&A I just don't get, and Howard is just a publicity whore. Nothing wrong with either of them, just I prefer Bob and Tom.

There is no Howard in Canada because while we don't care much about incidental swearing on air, there are topics that HS covered in the past when on the air here in Canada that just didn't pass the stink test. Our free speech and your free speech are different, and degrading women is (as an example) not acceptable on radio.

Remember, in Canada, the Osbornes ran on broadcast TV at 10PM at night WITHOUT the bleeper. Our rules are more concerned with bad ideas and degrading comments rather than just the words themselves.

After a while, he got very predictable. I respect the man for turning a bad childhood into millions, and his insistence on complete honesty; I just wish I found his shows more interesting to listen to.

I don't have anything against him or his show but I realised back then he's just not my style.

Sometimes I like Howard Stern, sometimes I don't, but all and all he's an equal opportunity asshole and that's why he's a success. He's apolitcal in a sense, he doesn't know what politically correct is, and that's why people listen to him. Most of the stuff he spews is garbage and kind of juvenile, but it strikes at a nerve because it goes against what I think is an extremely anal retentive political correctness that started at the end of the 80's and has just gotten worst over the years. Will I get Sirus to listen to him? No, lol, but I can understand why he's so popular.

Howard is ok, I have found myself latly (last year or so) switching him off and either trying music for a change or some other talk radio. Bad part is there is nothing on in the morning at all to listen to. So music takes the cake these days. O&A were smart when they started out, they took the late afternoon rush hour drive and made it funny, something no one had done in a long time. Well at least not in the NYC area. But those two boobs had to know they were in for a serious ass kicking when they let two other boobs walk into a church and fuck. In the end there will be more satalite radio companies but I would not be surpised if Stern pushed Sirius to the point of being able to purchase XM leaving it the only monster in that business. All others will just be bad clones.

I love Bob, Tom, Chick, and Christy. They are the only reason I would get up so early in the morning for class the last few years.

Yeah, there used to be some good stuff to listen to in the morning, now I opt for music stations as most of the morning talk shows are romper room type shows. I tried listening to Scott & Todd in the morning, but Scott Shannon always sounds drunk and the show is kind of stupid. So I take out the mp3 player and just do music in the morning.

I hate morning 'crews' and always have. My thought is usually... "shut the hell up and play some music". I don't need to hear people acting like idiots first thing in the morning.

I understand that other people have to leave the house (as do I, sometimes) so I don't mind weather and traffic reports, but otherwise..... shut up.

That's my favorite part of the morning shows now. I love hearing, "Major traffic jam, alternate side of the street parking in effect, blah blah blah" and then I sip my coffee and start working from home...oh it's a good thing to be self-employed and listening to how other people have to suffer the daily commute. I know, it's sadistic, but I can't help it

lol. I have always been lucky I guess when it comes to working. Only twice in my life have I worked in NYC and that was just a nightmare getting there and getting home. Oh God!! I even hate to think about it. I have friends who still do it and that 6am to 8pm will just kill you. But the last 10 years or so, I have been lucky enough to be the guy on the other side of the road with no traffic at all. It's the cell phones that piss me off. Shit! Think about it, 15 years ago people got work done when they got in the office, not when they were driving to it. I have to keep myself thinking they are working, when I think they are talking to friends or family I snap and start pressing the fire button on the 50 cal sitting on top the car lol.

I can take that bet & win right now, because when you throw in the 14 million that have XM thru their Direct TV, Sirius will never pass 20 million by the end of the year

But I will take the bet for just subscribers as of Dec 31st 2006 if you want.

Here are the current totals:
XM: 6.0 million
Sirius: 3.3 million

Just an indicator:
XM as of Jan 05: 3.2 million
Sirius as of Jan 05: 1.1 million
(all totals taken from their website press releases)

$100 sound good?

And before you reply, just remember that XM now has a portable unit that allows you to listen live, record shows & use it as an mp3 player:
http://www.xmradio.com/newsroom/scre...06_01_04a.html
(Sirius has a docking station where you can save programming, but not listen live & not play mp3's)

XM 'High Voltage' has doubled Direct TV's value in my home, and that's after only one day of listening. My life will never be the same again.

So, using your numbers, with opie and andy, XM doubled. Without Howard Stern, Sirius tripled. $100 is a good wager.

They're not "my" numbers, they are the only numbers

And based on those numbers, XM gained 2.8 last year & Sirius gained 2.2 (even with all the Stern fans buying units for Xmas)

The XM units that came out last year before Xmas 2004 have live portable capabilities - so you can clip it to your belt & listen to live programming, as I did at both airports & on the plane rides for my Vegas trip
