Her 17 year old unmarried daughter is pregnant:
http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/us/in...=1&oref=slogin Personally, I don't give a shit. It happens all the time. But I bet it's still embarrassing to the right wingers, or whatever you want to call the republicans. McCain claims he knew. The article also states that the republicans are announcing it now to counter this weekend's rumors of Palin being the grandmother of her newborn. So, in other words, they're politicizing a 17 year old's pregnancy.

So, because of this woman's political affiliation and beliefs, this pregnancy can be filed under "a gift from god."

I just read about the daughter's pregnancy on cnn.com and all I can say is wow, wow, wow... how in the world could McCain think that this misguided woman would set an example for the rest of us?
And you're right, they'll probably spin it as a "blessing". It's interesting to note how the Obama campaign has been almost completely silent over the weekend, I suppose they're smart enough to sit back and let the McCain/Palin campaign bury itself. What worries me though is that even with all his problems, Bush got elected twice, so who knows how this will all play out. |

I agree with Obama's statement, that kids should be off limits in political races, but I think that Palin's belief in only teaching abstinence education should be attacked...not only are kids with raging hormones going to have a hard time with that, but without any sex education about STDs they are going to get into a world of trouble over that and may just get something like aids that could kill them.

Well IF her daughter is PG and supposedly she's 5 month which means while her mom is out licking her wounds from losing she'll be giving birth. However it will be interesting to see WHEN exactly she gives birth. Probably by February..which by then Palin's 15 minutes of fame will be over.
Hopefully. While I agree that "children" should be off limits.. she (the daughter) is participating in Adult behavior, therefore should be game and leaves ample opportunity to prove that her mother cannot control her own family, abandoned her 5 month old child, fired someone because they wouldn't comply with her "order" to fire her ex-BIL out of revenge..so how is this person qualified to be a heartbeat away from the Oval Office??? |

And then there is this
"Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she was once a member of their party, which, since the 1970s, has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the United States. And while McCain's motto -- as seen in a new TV ad -- is "Country First," the AIP's motto is the exact opposite -- "Alaska First -- Alaska Always."" http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpu...s-of-frin.html |

And she's been pretty successful in securing multiple-millions of US taxpayer dollars for her little town of Wasilla.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...l?hpid=topnews "In fiscal year 2002, Wasilla took in $6.1 million in earmarks -- about $1,000 in federal money for every resident. By contrast, Boise, Idaho -- which has more than 190,000 residents -- received $6.9 million in earmarks in fiscal 2008." For a person who may have had secessionist ambitions at one point, she sure loves securing and spending US taxpayer money.

Obama doesn't have a lot of experience, but to me, he has shown the wisdom to surround himself with people that have more experience, and I feel is the best bet to get people involved in the whole government process. Can you see him text messaging the millions..."hey we are trying to pass this green energy bill and senator xyz is against it, write him at his email and let him know what you think." I think he has a real shot at helping to actually change government. But that is just my 2 cents.

Interesting how mommy doesn't look pregnant for her last kid, flew home at +8 months, and the kid was out of school for mono for like +6 months.
You don't suppose she was trying to coverup? |

all in all though, you have to admit that it was a bold move by John McCain to choose Palin and reach out to the Eskimo vote...

DOH!
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalra...c-in-st-p.html Murphy: It's not going to work. Noonan: It's over. Murphy: But still McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good. Todd: I think this was insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson... She’s never looked comfortable with this. Murphy: they’re all bummed out Todd: I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to? Noonan: The most qualified? No. I would think they went for the, excuse me, political bulls**t about narratives... Noonan: Every time Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at, they blow it. Murphy: You know what's really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism and this is cynical. ______________________________________ I agree with this comment 100%. "Todd: I think this was insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson... She’s never looked comfortable with this." I actually had a "hissy fit" last Wednesday when I read about the "Greek Parthenon" setting Obama was going to have at his speech (And I am still shocked that it was not spinned the way I was scared it would be, but that just proves how good that speech really was) and I read that McBush was going to have a woman VP, I totally thought it was going to be Hutchinson and IMHO, if it was, we would have 4 more years of McBush, but now I am confident we will get change and not more of the same. In the future, this "well thought decision" will be McBush's Waterloo. |

I don't want a pitbull with lipstick anywhere near me or my country's highest office.
I'd look forward to a woman as president or vp someday, but I really would prefer one who brings more of the female side to the equation. As far as I'm concerned we really don't need a woman who thinks that standing up like a man and attacking your opponent(s) is even the way to govern herself. Where the hell are all the real women? I miss them. .

I watched the speeches over the past couple of days and it's unsettling how the entire Republican strategy just seems to be attack, attack, attack, with no one addressing the important issues (economy, jobs, education, health care, Iraq & Afghanistan, etc.) that will make life better for all of us.
What's even more unsettling is watching all the delegates jumping up and down with joy and glee listening to all this negative crapola. Do they really understand what's going on around them? Based on the many commentaries and op-ed pieces I've read, the media seems to be able to see through most of this, but I wonder how the average joe on the street is taking it all in? Is it really possible that the only things most Americans care about is abortion, guns, and religion? I truly hope we're smarter than that, or at least have learned something from the last eight years. I suppose we'll find out in a couple of months... |

I haven't watched any of her interviews because, even though I try to be open-minded, I've already made up my mind about her.
If she did say that energy is the foundation stone of our security, then there's a lot of truth to that and it's certainly an arguable point. What turns me off to her is her ultra-conservative, religious fundamental viewpoints. She clearly wants to tell us all how to live our lives, when it doesn't even work in her own home. It's the typical Republican "do as I say, not as I do" bullshit. |

If she'd said that our reliance on failed foreign policies and serious and significant lack of real intellect in the highest government positions in recent years has put us in the position where, unfortunately, it's gotten to the point where our national security actually has energy as a critical foundation stone... well, never mind, she probably couldn't have memorized more involved soundbites or they'd have given her some.
But seriously, I hope the democratic machine is smart enough to STOP paying any attention to the bright, shiny object* the republicans are dangling for them. -- * credit b.s.o. to Bill Maher's show

she replied to that.. we at alaska didnt like what russia is doing to georgia. and from a point in alaska we can see russia, as a governer of alaska i have trying to focus on the energy conservation... the interviewer inturrupted her that he has asked about the national security.. then she replied "energy is the foundation stone of our security..." that came as a surprise event to the person interviewing her... i know they all are linked to each other, but we expect a precise and to the point answer from a VP candidate |

In case you didn't see the Tina Fay/Amy Poehler skit on SNL, NBC has ever so graciously put it on their site (after hitting YouTube with a C&D).
http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Li...y-open/656281/ Funny as hell, but many excellent points are made.
