When searching for an "answer", mainstream consumers are tending to rely more on the democratic views expressed in social networking sites (such as digg, stumbleupon etc) rather than on the algorithmic "opinions" of search engine rankings.

Porn is a special (and isolated) case.

The 'democracy' of word of mouth probably helps the tubes.
