mpeg problems

Ok I already ran through this before the radio show but I still can't work it out.

This site has mpegs that are 16 secs long for me, thats whether I view them in IE or Firefox, in the browser or in wmp. They also show 16 secs for some people who have checked too. BUT for others they are only 11secs if they view them from the site but 16 if they save them first then view them.

Does anyone have any ideas how/why this is happening because I am going fucking nuts here? Ever had this problem before?

Just for now I am probably going to add an extra 2 movies to each gallery just to get it listed everywhere but that isnt a solution.

006_new.mpg is 16.04 long for me using Quicktime. No idea why they would show less for some.

oh yeah some are a bit less than 16, its cool if they are 15. Thank you so much for looking guys, thats a great demo of how people are seeing two different sizes. It so odd. Maybe the people seeing 11 are missing some kind of codec or something or viceversa.. I am very new to movies so no clue. I am beginning to think they just arent for me lol.

ok I had one idea what may do it.. so I did up a test page (no bi movies this time

)
It has 3 mpegs with the frame rates differed because that could be something that effects it idepending on the codecs you have.. I think.. I hope. These are all 16 sec to me.
If anyone has a wee bit of time to check em for me I would be really grateful (especially if you are someone who had them show as 11 secs.)

All three opened in my windows media player 10 by default. The first two were 11 seconds and the third 12 seconds in length. hth

All clips end after 15 seconds for me on WMP 10. When I loaded it in ULead, the 29.7 FPS version skipped from around 15:26 to 16:01. Feels like something's out of sync. Maybe the original video FPS was lower than 29.7?

16 seconds with IE opening clip in Cyberlink PowerDVD.

It is because you guys in Oz (as well as Western Europe) use PAL, We in the US and Canada use NTSC...
The US versions of WMP does not handle the PAL speedup well while streaming, it ignores the added 90 visible scan line PAL produces.
Thus it streams a smaller movie, but if we download the movie we get the complete version including the added scan lines. Quicktime handles streaming video different and there are not different versions of quictime by international regions.

An added note, anyone that gets 11 secs on first viewing..watch the whole thing and close WMP. Then click the movie link again...it will now show them as 16 secs because they have been downloaded into your cache thus no longer are streaming

hmmm interesting meat! Sooo now I gotta work out to fix it so reviewers who get the 11 secs still list me (like MML) because I can't rely on people having to close and reopen them.
Off to read that article and see what I can do.
Aha the sponsor I get the bi ones off is european so maybe thats part of it.

Actually Nat what do you have for dvd burning software? I know both Nero and Blaze Media have the ability to convert back and forth between pal and ntsc. Also there are several programs out there that specialize in the conversions.
You could try converting the PAL mpeg's to NTSC before uploading them.

I will check what Punani uses Meat. I am doing a couple of other tests tonite or tomorrow. I found out that the movies are starting as 25fps before I cut them and save as mpegs. I have changed the regional settings on my pc just as a not-likely test lol.
The software I use (avs media) does have ntsc and pal conversions too and I have tried both but I will mess with it a bit more. It also has wizard which I havent tried.
I gtg be soccer mom right now so more test later

Ok I have done as guru Meat has prescribed.

The first is my normal one which many would see as 11 secs, the second is hopefully 16 secs... (no actually bi sex or even naked men)
