Loving The Cable Modem
The cable modem is screaming, and I'm lovin' it
Just downloaded dreamweaver 8 in under a minute, and Windows is clocking my download speed at apx 800 kb/sec...MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA Unfortunately, I fucking hate comcast. I live in an apartment so I have no choice, and they know it, and they stick it in. I use them because I must and I revel in the lightning quick downloads, but I'm overpaying since I have no other choice, and I must say... FUCK COMCAST byebyebestbuy.com has inspired me, and I just might have to build a site about it. We now return you to your regularly scheduled webmastering. |

Guess I am lucky to be able to see the southern skies. The only cable around here is the kind that folks stretch across their driveways to keep trespassers out.
DirecTV's basic package and DirecWay's small business package = about $1k in equipment and installation and around $142 per month |

I have a Comcast cable modem as my main connection. I'm paying the extra $10 per month for their higher speed 6Mbps/768Kbps. Also it worked out that it was only $1 per month to also have basic cable then to just have a cable modem so I have basic cable as a backup in case the weather gets too bad for my satellite to get a signal.
Since I make my living off of the internet I also got Earthlink basic ADSL 1.5Mbps/128Kbps as backup which came in very nice when hurricane Wilma knocked out everyone's cable for three weeks down here. Earthlink has a decent deal, free modem, $19.95 per month for six months and then $39.95 per month there after. Chop what kind of speeds to you get off of DirecWay? |

That is much better speeds then I thought satellite gave you, expensive through. I worry about a storm knocking out both my cable and phone lines so I had thought about adding satellite but it's more then I would want to spend just for a backup.

Max even tho you hate them, you will never go back to dial up lol. I use optium and I have to say, just top of the line. 900 down 700 up on average. keep a watch on it tho, they will cap you if they feel you are using to much of the pipe you are paying for. amazing these companies

I'm on the new ka-band satellite system. Its not bad for speed, and the latency is much better than the old dish internet system. Its called wildblue.com down in the USA.
I wish I had a real cable modem or DSL connection, but after 4 years of suffering with dialup after moving to a farm I'm willing to accept less than perfect. |
