I hate the IE service pack 2!!!

Does anyone know how to remove it?

For some reason it has decided that the cookies on every page need to be blocked, and no matter how hard I try, I can't make it accept them.

Normally I use Mozilla for all my surfing, but there are times when you just have to use IE - and my biggest problem is with Stats Remote - it only uses IE to open members areas.

Just had to express my frustration

That's my problem - I've already been into the internet tools, set it so that it accepts cookies. I've told it to accept cookies from individual sites as well, I've ticked every box I can to make it accept everything, but the bastard thing just ignores me and keeps on blocking everything.

I have no idea how to make it stop.... it's almost like the security pack needs rebooting or something - but this has been going on for days. The settings stay the same no matter how many times I reboot the computer.

I too hate the update Grandmascrotum. In order to change certain settings which were blocking almost ALL web pages except msn and google I had to
a. first do exactly what you did and check all boxes but....
b. using windows xp i had to disable system restore...reboot my comp and then re enable it.
I still have some issues with the service pack but this seemed to cover the *wont display pages* issue.
Seems like IE and XP were in cahoots to make sure my settings always stayed the same!

I have been TOLD that doing this will solve most weirdness issues with SP2 and browsing.

I haven't done it... and didn't read the knowledge base article carefully.. but am relibly assured that doing this will at the least not hurt. (I dont guarantee that though!)

1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
4. Type regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll, and then click OK.
5. Type regsvr32 Shell32.dll, and then click OK.
6. Type regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll, and then click OK.
7. Type regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll, and then click OK.
8. Type regsvr32 Mshtml.dll, and then click OK.
9. Type regsvr32 browseui.dll, and then click OK.
10. Type regsvr32 Mshtml.dll, and then click OK.
11. restart your computer

Each time you should see the "DllRegisterServer in succeeded." message, click OK.

If the problem still persists check the instructions in this Microsoft Knowledge Base Article for a few more things that can be done.

Thanks for the suggestions Cheerful and Opti. We'll have a try and see if it works.

If anyone else has had this prob, I'd appreciate suggestions.

I got SP2 a while back & have no problems that I can see - I'm using the pop-up blocker, which is just fucking lovely, but have the virus & firewall stuff turned off since I already had Norton & Zone Alarm on my system.

After I installed it on my laptop it was like sitting on an old 486. It was SLOW as heck.

It was just go in under Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it.

we are in the middle of deploying sp2 on the computers in our network...180+ machines, from 500mhz up to 3.2 ghz. i think so far we have 4 that have had issues. one got stuck in an endless rebooting loop and had to be totally reformatted and reloaded. 2 were really slow after install of sp2, both of which sped right back up after a defrag and a couple days use, and one that we had to do the sp2 install 3 times before it completed without errors. other than that, all the rest have performed flawlessly. and the popup blocker alone has been a huge blessing for us in the it department.

It seems I may have unfairly maligned SP2 in this. Turns out that the other login on my computer has no problem with cookies at all - it's all specific to my part of the PC. So that suggests it's not the service pack.

Something has gone awry with my privacy and security settings - but we're stuffed if we can work out what it is.

Ah well...

only major issues I've had is capturing PAL no matter what options I click to say it's PAL it still treats it as if the video is NTSC. removed it and it worked fine, if you still need to remove it grandma go to

Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs --> scroll down to Windows XP Service Pack 2 and remove like any other software.

I decided to uninstall it on one machine and use that for capturing. the others all have it.

regards
