Warning pages?

Do you use a warning page for your blogs?

I'm just really starting mine, and I suppose I should figure that out before I go any further. I don't have one at the moment.

There's no point in a warning page for a blog, in my opinion. If you're doing it right, most of your traffic will come from search engines, and those visitors won't ever see your warning page. For most of us, the title and description of our blogs make it clear enough that they contain adult content. And, on my own blog, I always write long enough text entries that visitors have to scroll down before they'll see anything explicit. That way, they can always back out before they manage to offend themselves.

You can also use things like:
http://netnanny.com/
and
http://www.icra.org/

Just a possibility.

I do use ICRA on all my sites/galleries. Thanks for reminding me that I need to make sure I registered my blog though.

I was just curious. To me, it seems that they are porn the same as a free site or a gallery, and that I might want to put it behind a warning page.

i dont use any on mine, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't. If you feel you should, then by all means do. There is probably something out there that says if you have adult content you should have a warning page.

Actually, I did go ahead and put a warning page up. I do show explicit images on my blog, and I can't see that is different than a free site not having a warning page.

I understand that having one does not mean jackshit in terms of keeping minors out. I just like having that little edge that I might have to use someday, in terms of showing a good faith effort to do so.

No warning page but I guess I should add the ICRA label to the head of the page but since it is on my LL's domain it isn't like there already is all kinds of warnings about the domain.

You're missing the point on having a warning page. It's not there just to stop underage viewers. The biggest reason I have them, on all of my sites, is to show a good faith effort to keep underage viewers off my sites. If they go around them or ignore them, it's their problem, not mine. I also use the ICRA and Rating META tags in the head of all my pages. As much to protect my own ass, as to keep kids out.

There's nothing wrong with having a warning page. A possible disadvantage to it, though, is that your link trades point to a warning page instead of a frequently updated page rich with text for the search engines to index. I exercise my own good faith effort by:
1) Long text entries before any adult advertising. There's no porn in your face when you hit the page.
2) I try hard to pick only non-explicit images to display on the blog for the websites I'm advertising. I try to keep it close to an R-rated blog.
3) Any advertising for the blog makes it clear that the link goes to an adult-oriented blog

Since my own blog is primarily political news and commentary, I'm considering getting rid of the porn and taking it mainstream. I'm making more money now from a non-adult internet industry that sprang up last year than I make from all my adult sponsors combined. If that keeps up all year, I think I'll sell my adult website business in the late Fall.

The few trades I have all point to where I tell them to, so that isn't an issue.

Except I do need to remember to tell someone to change what they have up.

Thank you for reminding me of that.
