Wow, Pop Unders Really Do Work!!!

I started my program of adding pop unders to my non profitable and low profit adult sites simply out of desperation. I'm currently using them to push the more profitable sites, but my intention, further down the line, is to sell the pop unders. However they appear to be a lot more effective than I thought:

When testing the pop under and setting it up I was using several minor sites as the target. One was Home Grown Laughter (a jokes site). It was only on there for a couple of days, and did not get a lot of hits. Looking at my stats, the number of hits obviously rose considerably during that time. But more interestingly is the increase in "type in" hits since the site came off the pop under. It is a big site. I'm about to add more jokes, but at the moment it has 188 pages with jokes on them. So not something you would read in one sitting, but might bookmark to revisit.

From rough estimates using the traffic levels when the pop under targeted this site, and comparing the number of "type ins" before and after the pop under campaign, it looks like nearly ten percent of the people who got the pop under must have bookmarked it! That is bloody impressive results (never seen an ad get taken up by 10% of surfers before, even for "free stuff"). Particularly as the pop under is an annoying thing and I would expect most surfers to ignore it on principle.

Maybe we should reevaluate their worth and use them more.

Perhaps Live Jasmine knows something we don't.

At the very least: Perhaps if we all used pop unders, or pop ups, on our free sites - surfers would get so pissed off with it that they would start buying memberships again, just to escape the pops!

PS: Having just reread what I wrote above, the line "never seen an ad get taken up by 10% of surfers before" jumped out at me as I realised another possible reason for those results:

The pop under was to a jokes site, not an adult site. My amazingly high success rate with the pop under may be partly due to the fact that it was not an adult site. These figures may be more evidence of my often stated belief that we can make more money selling non-porn on porn sites than we can make selling porn!

The problem with selling non-porn on porn sites is that most non-porn (mainstream) partner programs don't allow their products being linked to porn sites.
Non the less the pop-under thing is worth a try.

No the problem with selling non-porn on porn sites is that most porn webmasters are too lazy to look for the few that do! This is not an easy business, you have to do a bit of work to make a bit of money. It does not all get delivered to you handily gift wrapped.

No, I tell a lie, the problem with selling non-porn on porn websites is that most webmasters are too lazy to look even when it is dangled in front of their face.

No, sorry wrong again. The problem with selling non-porn on porn websites is that most webmasters are too lazy to look even when it is dangled in front of their face and they are hit over the head with a hammer to attract their attention while someone shouts in their ear "Wakey wakey, here is a non porn sponsor who will allow you to sell their product."

When G was actively selling adverts on this site himself, one of his advertisers was a non-porn product that allowed sales on porn websites. The only site I have ever seen with their advert was G's own site, despite the fact that they advertised here with huge banner adverts asking for affiliates.

And two other such sponsors have been mentioned many times in threads, but I have never seen their ads on any other member's site!

The reason this business is dieing is not "too much free porn", it is not "the tubes". It is "lazy assed webmasters too busy masturbating over their own product to actually do a bit of serious work"!!!!!!!!!

/rant (But I will probably repeat it again sometime in the future.)

And even if you don't find a sponsor who allows you to sell on an adult site. You could one of these methods:

Visit one of my minor sites by clicking here (it goes to Throat's bondage blog). Then click anywhere on that page (doesn't have to be a link). Unless you have a bloody good pop up blocker, clicking in that page will get you a pop under. 90% of the time that pop under will be a non-adult site selling non-adult products. Thus I am NOT selling my affiliates stuff on an adult site, but getting non adult sales from adult traffic!

Or go to Women In Bondage using privacy software that hides referrer and click on a lot of galleries. About 30% of gallery clicks are skimmed. Non referrer traffic that is skimmed has a 50% chance of being sent to a non-adult site selling non-adult stuff!

In short: Unless you are a bone idle fucker, there is always a way to do it !!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I put my lazyness aside and looked at your sites. I like the idea of thinking out of the box. I see you put a lot of work into your pop-unders.

I just put AWE's popunder on most of my sites today and already I'm seeing "a lot" of uniques being sent to the sponsor. Not really using the "porn to non-porn" thing but still this thread got me off my ass a bit.

That is because I am testing the idea at the moment. I need to know the "how what when where" of the surfers who get the pop unders. So a Javascript event triggers a Perl script that records all the info it can about the surfer before throwing them a pop under.

Next stage will be to track more from the page that pops, so I can see what they do next.

Am considering also shooting them a tracking cookie.

Are you Throat? A pity "paycentre" does not also use payoneer and paxum. When you live in an arse end of the world country like I do, PayPal only allows you to send money, not receive.

Good Ideas though.

I publish for Throat. And act as web designer for his websites.

Payoneer and Paxum are too expensive for a system like PayCentre.

You are lucky PayPal lets you send money - I get about one email a week from other African countries along the lines of "I need your magic book, but we cannot pay by PayPal here. How can I get the book?"
