digital cam advice?
Can anyone recommend a cheap but decent digital cam? I only need it for some ebay stuff but it needs to be pretty good for closeups of things like coins and jewellery.

SG - most of the digi cams now are at least 3MP for a regular price range of a couple hundred. But if you're going to do close-ups and small items, make sure it has an OPTICAL zoom not just a digital zoom.
Here is a list of digi cams 4-6 MP with a 7-10x optical zoom Should be a good place to start. As for me I have a Canon PowerShot Pro 1 with 8 MP and crazy options, ($800 price tag)but it was a gift so Im OK with that. J-

Thanks guys!
Idiot proof sounds good since I am no photographer Tho I've heard that anytime anyone builds something idiot proof, a bigger better idiot comes along I will look for an optical lens as well.

Checkout http://www.dpreview.com it's by far the best resource for anyone looking for digital camera reviews and always my first source to compare the latest, greatest and cheapest digital cameras. They give you side-by side reviews of all current models and have a great archive in case you’re looking at purchasing an older or used model. Most of the current models are overkill for what you’re doing so you should be able to get something on the cheaper end of the spectrum. Just make sure it will focus close, and if shooting coins, that it’s sharpness is acceptable. Call me if you need help on this one. |
