This is just sad

We just watched the Preakness (thanks to the DVR) and the Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro broke out of the gate before the race started and when they got him back in the gate the race started and within seconds the jockey pulled him back and you could see the horse was injured and as it turns out his back right leg is broke and this may cost him his life.

Completely a heart breaker….

Ramster 2006-05-21 08:32 AM

Torn, I saw the race also and that was too bad. I hope they can save the horse at least.

Torn Rose 2006-05-22 10:40 PM

WHAT A COMEBACK!!!!!!

Down 20 at one point, down 14 at half Spurs take the lead for the first time in the game 104-101 with 34 secs left!!!!

Torn Rose 2006-05-22 11:10 PM

Damn... Mavs win in OT...

I like the team, love the coach.... but every time I start to want them to win, Mark Cuban speaks.... more proof $ can not buy class.

Greenguy 2006-05-23 07:10 AM

Mark Cuban fucking ROCKS!
(and I base that solely on his HD channels)

dareutwo 2006-05-23 04:42 PM

LOL - I hate Mark Cuban - the players though I do respect (as if that makes any sense)

On a side note, the Minnesota legislature has given the US hockey hall of fame some more bucks to stay open, if our bastard Gov. signs it. (it also gets the Gophers football team a new stadium - so it should pass)

Not exactly sure what you hockey fans would do without MN hockey - NO miracle on ice etc...
Let's see, Boston College and Michigan take on Canada, that'd be about it :D

LOL - Hey now, we all need a place to hang our hats.
Yeah given, Canada invented the game, just think we're a really close 2nd :)

Texas championship ring up for auction on eBay

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....ap/index.html

For a 10-karat gold ring valued at about $350, bids had reached $10,599.99 by Wednesday afternoon from a buyer trying to grab a bit of Texas glory.

Greenguy 2006-05-25 06:13 PM

I thought that you'd have been making fun of our beat up defense with this latest post :D

Torn Rose 2006-05-25 06:50 PM

Would I ever make fun of you?

Since the 'Wings and Av's are gone I jumped on the Sabs bandwagon... but those Oilers look NASTY....

Ramster 2006-05-26 08:34 AM

Jesus, how can you allow a team to come to your building and get 25 shots in the FIRST period? Wow. Of course all those penalties might have something to do with it. I though Edmonton might come back for a while there but they didn't.

Sabres need a win tonight to put Carolina on the brink. Good luck. :)

Greenguy 2006-05-26 09:45 AM

I think everyone expected Edmonton to come back last night (and they almost did) But the good thing is that now we have hockey on Saturday :D

'Ironhead' Heyward loses battle with recurring tumor

Heyward departed Pitt as an underclassman to enter the NFL draft and was the first-round selection of the New Orleans Saints in 1988. He played from 1988-92 for the Saints and then had stints with Chicago (1993), Atlanta (1994-96), St. Louis (1997) and Indianapolis (1998).

Just got back from the bar where I watching game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final. And what a treat it was! Game 7 is gonna be sick. As far as I'm concerned, this is the real final because first its going 7 games and second, these were the two best teams in the conference down the stretch and this should be the finals, no offense Edmonton fans, the Oilers have played well.

The East is the beast. It would take a miraculous effort by the Oilers to knock off either of these teams. Should be an awesome finals no matter who joins the Oilers. Good hockey is back and that's all that counts.|thumb

Titans trade McNair to Ravens

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....ap/index.html

The Ravens, who reportedly have offered a fourth-round pick in next spring's draft, confirmed that McNair will take a physical Wednesday, but the team said the results were not expected to be available until Thursday morning.

McNair, who turned 33 in February, was the winningest quarterback in franchise history. In 11 seasons, he went 81-59 and led them to their only Super Bowl in 2000. He and Peyton Manning shared the league's MVP award in 2003.

Big Ben in serious condition after motorcycle accident

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2480830

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who last season became the youngest quarterback in NFL history to lead his team to a Super Bowl title, was badly injured in a motorcycle crash Monday morning and set for surgery.

Roethlisberger, 24, was in serious but stable condition in an operating room, said Dr. Larry Jones, chief of trauma at Mercy Hospital. Jones spoke before going into surgery, The Associated Press reported.

"He was alert and conscious" at the scene of the accident, said Ernie Roman, shift commander for the Allegheny County emergency service, told AP.

ESPN.com's John Clayton reported that early indications were the injuries were not life-threatening.

I remember last year seeing an interview of Bill Cowher and he said that he didn't support Roethlisberger riding a motorcycle, but that he was not going to stop him from doing so. |cry|

Trev 2006-06-12 03:55 PM

Roethlisberger has said in the past that he prefers not to wear a helmet. He has pointed out Pennsylvania's 35-year-old state law requiring helmets to be worn was amended to make helmets optional.
I never will understand this law. It's the same here in Ohio. We have to wear seatbelts in cars, but someone completely exposed on a motorcycle isn't required to wear any protection at all? It's amazing to see some of the things people wear while riding motorcycles on the freeways.

I hope he makes it back ok. The broken left sinus cavatiy could be problems. He must have smashed his face good. Hopefully nothing serious with his knees.
