Porn Princess: That's so sad. :( Man...

To all down there- hope all the 'weak' trees, lightpoles, etc...have already been knocked down.

Be as safe as ya can!

Bill 2004-09-25 09:33 PM

Cleo, you get to have all the fun! ;-}

What with global warming and the antarctic glaciers melting for a 4 foot global sea level rise, I predict a new Florida tourist industry- "Live Thru a HURRICANE!". People will flock to 300mph-proof concrete dome houses to listen to the winds roar and watch the fig trees fly thru the air behind bulletproof glass!

The extreme sports types will tough it out in mobile homes!

T Pat 2004-09-25 09:37 PM

Porn Princess my heart goes out to you and your family, hang in there it can't get any worse

Cleo 2004-09-25 09:45 PM

Could put a sail on a mobile home and go storm surfing. :D

I have a little weather radar thing in my menu bar that shows the weather with a radar image. I just snapped this pic of my desktop. You can really see the eye of the storm. www.cleoslinks.com/crap/desktop.jpg

The Day Cleo Hit Fort Lauderdale

Cleo 2004-09-26 07:17 AM

Always nice to have a hurricane named after one's nick. :D

My power just came back on. |roses|

Took a fast look outside and it doesn't look too bad. It doesn't look like I lost any more trees. I'm amazed that my power just came back on.

I'm so over this that I'm just lost for words.

Surfn 2004-09-26 07:28 AM

Glad to see you are alright |smooch|

KCat 2004-09-26 01:53 PM

Wow! Power's back already? Great news.

Glad to hear you're safe & sound. |bananna|

Cleo 2004-09-26 02:13 PM

Power is back on again. |roses|

It want back off not long after I made my last post.

A huge ficus tree, much bigger then the one I had, on the next block took out the power lines and part of the homeowner's roof.

I've decided that ficus is only good for hedges and probably will cut the big one in my backyard even more before next hurricane season. I did have it trimmed a lot so that it wouldn't catch the wind and it does seems fine.

It is a quagmire of having shade in your yard or having trees joining you indoors uninvited it seems. The oaks, mangos, black olive and palms seem to do well but nothing is better for shade then a fast growing ficus trees. We also use ficus for hedges. As long as you trim them ever few months they really do make beautiful hedges.

Anyone heard from Kat & Torn?

I feel very lucky after viewing a few of these.

Cleo 2004-09-26 04:33 PM

I just spoke to Torn on the phone. Everyone is alright but they have no power and a large tree that was leaning after the last storm fell over and is in the street.

I see they are still trying to get the power on across the street from me. At least today is a very nice day and isn't too hot, actually it is a beautiful day, one of those days that is the reason I live here.

If there are words to offer you, I don't know what they are. So I'm sending a ~hearthug~ over the miles.

I'm not sure how much a person is expected to take all at once. My little brother was in a critical car accident a week ago Wed. He is in a coma in acute care in St. Mary's trauma unit. We ended all life sustaining efforts, after having to fight with staff and administration to let him go. And now I can't go be with him in what could be his last moments. My mother was able to be allowed to sit out the hurricane in the ICU waiting room, with all her gear in tow.

What a nightmare of a month. Ack!

I need a drink or 10!

But, I think I'm on auto pilot, floating about, just seeing how the storm and all else pans out.

I'm thinking you're right about the lotto chances. Bad odds pay off good though.

The lights are flickering now, so I think it's time to shut this down and curl up on the couch.

It started when we were all down there. I doubt if I'll go down there again that time of year. |sad|

Cleo 2004-09-26 06:00 PM

Torn Rose 2004-09-26 10:07 PM

Evening all, we are back online after 13.5 hours.

We are VERY lucky, we are hearing on the news Melbourne got hit pretty hard with heavy damage.

The worse seems to be over for us at the moment.

|buddy|

Torn Rose 2004-09-26 11:03 PM

I was just at another board, and another Melbourne webmaster posted some pics of our area. We got nailed pretty hard. Looks worse then what Frances did, so I feel VERY lucky to have power.

If anyone is thinking of coming to FL for the beaches stay home, all the beachs we go to are no longer there.

|sad|

cd34 2004-09-27 11:08 AM

I rode this one out in Homestead to return to a house with no power and no phone. Since DSL worked through Frances, I figured I would get lucky and have DSL this time, but, no go.

Want to be the most popular guy in the neighborhood? Show up with bags of ice. haha Worked around here.

Phone/DSL was just restored -- still without power, FPL claims next Tuesday for our area. I knew I should have ordered the extra gas cans after Frances. haha

A few neighbors had damage, but, again we came out relatively unscathed. I can't remember the resistor to cut on the UPS to make it behave with my generator -- argh.

cd34 2004-09-27 11:34 AM

Note, a 5500 can make 50 gallons of hot water in 1 hour. :)
