I never tried that but I have had countless subs like that |pissed|

RawAlex 2003-10-21 05:23 PM

has anyone else seen a huge increase in freehosted submits again? I am seeing more and more third level domain stuff that turns out to be freehosting.

Two other things I am seeing alot of:

Mature women / young boy sites

redirectors to rape / snuff / abduction / confinement "fantasty" sites.

The entire 195.x.x.x block is going to be off my submit list soon... this stuff is sick.

My blocked list and me are becoming best friends.

SandWalker 2003-10-21 08:23 PM

top problems?

Okay, as a newbie to feeder sites, I have a few questions...

What are the top problems we should avoid?

I'm surprised most are rejected, I mean how can that many people not follow simple guidelines? I've categorized all my submits by rules and there's 3 groups. Clean, clean with html galleries, and popup-friendly. Make sense?

Maybe what we need here is a major overhaul in how they're accepted. It sounds to me like you have 2 problems.

1 - Idiots that can't follow the rules and/or auto-submit
2 - Long-term webmasters over-submitting the 2/day rule

Instead of approving site by site, why not approve by webmaster, maybe even a global approval thing. Similar to the blacklist, but approved webmasters. Increase the amount of submits allowed so serious webmasters can make serious money. But make it harder for idiots to get approved.

Sandwalker, if people were just 1% off of what I wanted, I might let it go. Most of the link sites around there parts have simple rules, 3 sponsor links per page, return links, a couple of other return links on the same page, reasonable size pics, no blind links or blind thumbs, etc. Not rocket science.

No, the biggest problem is people who mass produce hundreds of sites or doorways, and use various automatic and semi automatic tools to throw that at as many links sites as they can manage. They have sites filled with money bars, redirects, blind links, blind thumbs, banners that look like thumbs, multi enter links on the index page that go to sponsors, and a total dog's breakfast of other things that are specifically listed in the rules of most places as "do not do this".

Combine that with the people who make GREAT sites... and then an hour after listing pull the site and redirect the traffic directly to a sponsor or a console hell.

Get rid of those two things, and my review process just got 99% easier.

One thing that annoys the piss out of me if when I see an autosubmitted but my link on the same page as a linklist that has been out of business for years. You will be bound for the blacklist.

Really you can put abou every LL worth submitting to all together on the same page and submit if you do it neatly. There's only about 20 of them.

matt 2003-10-22 02:16 AM

IMHO Sandwalker, the reason so many submits get rejected is because the rules make sure that sites must be more surfer friendly, and harder to make money from.

A lot of webmasters try to stretch the rules, or just outright break them, in order to make more $. But in the long run, linklists listing sites with redirects and blind links will lose traffic and everyone misses out.

I am so glad to see so many here speaking out and hitting the nail on the head :) I often think about buying readtherules.com LOL But that is the bottom line the link list is listing your site for free at least you can follow the rules if that site dont fit your style find another on there are thousands of them :)

jhussher 2003-10-27 10:01 AM

I'm a submitter, not a TGP owner (except for my own 'hub' page). I have looked at several of the auto-submitters (they were advertised on TGP sites!!) and didn't think much of them. Some were very complicated to figure out how to use. And for my niche, Gay Ebony and Gay Interacial, well, most of the TGP's the submitters utilize are straight porn sites, many are low traffic and don't even have a gay category. I have tried Cliff's TGP Thingy at shavenferret.com but got poor results out of that, too.

So I just hand submit. It takes all damn day, but I can cherry pick the right TGP's and make sure to have my page right for that TGP.

Still have never gotten on to the Hun.

I get a lot where my recip is 'teamed up' with asianxxx (on non asian sites) & azescort (I've not been able to find any evidence that they link to free sites)...

I even added a rule about it - lol - what a waste of time that was!

I see a lot of the mature woman / 'young boy' stuff & a lot of hidden spam which almost always includes some cp term or other... do they think we can't read?

I also get a lot of really crappy ten mile long metatags, titles & descriptions and site names / descriptions which have absolutely sod all to do with the site content!

Last but not least for me - my most often broken rule - hardcore images on the index page... (even 'old hands' slip up in this area from time to time).

The sad thing is - right now - I no longer enjoy dealing with submissions & I do find myself searching for any little excuse to refuse a site - which is not the right attitude really! |sad|

i haven't done a free site in a number of months but was recently thinking about getting back into it as I used to find it one of the more enjoyable types of sites to build. I hope that those of us who do follow the rules and handsubmit on our own domains will be a breath of fresh air for you all and get noticed (ie linked) ;)

jhussher 2003-10-29 11:40 AM

I like doing free sites, too. After the site's finished it's a simple matter to do doorway pages to the site for the various AVS and submit them.

I save up miscellaneous content pics and when I have enough I'll put together a minisite in a microniche like "The Gay Boys of India".

I'm doing one right now for Gay Arab Boys. Hmm, maybe, "The Gay Boys of Iraq" ??? Might get some SE traffic off that one :|rasta|
