The problem with sicking to an older OS is sooner or later something comes out, hardware or software, that requires the latest greatest OS and here you are a bunch of versions older trying to play catchup.

There is obviously some kind of 'if..then...else...' clause built into the page which is saying 'if everything is OK then display the submit form else display unavailable message' and for some unkown reason I am getting the 'else display unavailable message' The only place I can see the actual submit form is in Google's cache which isn't a great deal of help really. I have exactly the same problem at Wetplace - obviously the server is configured the same there. Or maybe it's the same server |
Did you try using a different browser?

I forgot to say I've also tried with the other PC I have on this network, that came up with the same results too. I'm beginning to wonder if my IP is banned for some reason, although I can't imagine it would be!

Are you behind a router that maybe is blocking your referral information or something?
|
I've had actually been considering a cough couch "fruit" .
It's not the price of the box I'm concerned about, it's the programs I'll need to repurchase. Adding that up, it didn't make sense. Kid #3 is due for a new computer this summer. (5 year old Dell) - He may be getting a Mac ?? - we're on a linksys router with dsl, can I simply plug in a mac to this like I can a win box? |

I think I'll try shutting down absolutely everything and then not turning the network hardware back on and seeing if dialup will do the trick - I'll let you know :D |
Yeah I realized that you had tried a dialup after I had posted that and had then ran to the corner store. |banghead|
Does sound like your ISP is hated… |
i heard something about new security features in a recent XP or IE update and something to do with cookies and referrals not being tracked properly with some paysites. Anybody know more about this ?

I turned everything off, just switched the PC back on, used dialup, launched Firefox - and it worked. Submitted a site, turned off, rebooted with everything switched back on, launched Firefox, went to the submit page expecting to see the old unavailable message but got the submit form. It's all fine, it's as if I never had a problem. Just lost two days of my life trying to figure it out LOL. Of course, after all this trouble the site is just bound to be declined |clown| |
now all funny tell me do i need to download sp2 and end my life on the net???
|
I'm running sp2 and the only problem I've ever had is when an automatic update completely killed my DSL and network for a day

I installed in my blender and everything is fine.
Tomorrow I'm going to install it in my toaster and if everything goes well then I'm going to do my dishwasher too. Best update yet. I'm thinking of doing my tennis shoes next week right after I do all my bras. |

Went to keyboard 2.5 today, less than happy.
(I'm sure security update email will be here by morning) Why the fuck don't they make a 10.00 keyboard with a BIG backspace key!!!! That's all I want - I know the damn short cuts! 28 fucking blown dollars later for a 10.00 keyboard. downgraded to toaster 1.0. (toaster 3.5 had issues - like a stuck bread fire thing) Upgraded phone 3 from 900 to 2.4. |
Just wait until all your toilets are upgraded…

I know I'm not going to be the first to plop my nekkid butt down on a newly upgraded toilet from Microsoft.
|
I hear, if you use the M$ toilet, they have the rights to anything that comes out.
|
Most Sp2 problems related to networks are as a result of scumware / malware installed before the update that gets in the way.

Another happy XP Pro user here...hands down the most stable M$ OS I've ever run.
Used to crash 98se several times a freakin day. The dreaded bsod...hated that os... Built this machine almost 2 years ago...raid drives...tons of ram...very juicy. Still fast and rock solid stable :) Auto updates OS and NIS/AV. Runs the M$ spyware scanner nightly. Backs up a mirror image to an external usb hd twice a day. Hell folks...obviously we rely on these machines for our bread and butter. You've gotta keep your stuff up to date...locked down...and backed up. Once you get the systems in place...it's not hard to keep up with at all :) With this configuration...I've yet to have a significant spyware/virus/trojan problem...knock on wood...lol. Worst problem I've had was when Spybot S&D ran amok a few weeks ago. Damn thing updated...then started spiking core temperatures running cpu utilization to 100%. Stripped that sucker out...went to the M$ spyware scanner...problem solved :) |
Although I tend to swear a lot about MicroShit and Windows, I must say overall XP Pro is rather stable... Of all the versions I have used I would rate from best to worse (OS doing what was required at the time):
1. XP Pro (by a long margin) 2. Win 98 SE 3. Win 3.11 4. Win 98 and equal fifth (instable or simply useless): Win ME Win 2.0 (that was in 1986 or so...) There are many other pieces of software, many included as apps within WIN, which are giving me the shits, but as an OS in general I guess XP Pro does what it's supposed to do. Just wish MS would NOT hide so many features in sub>sub>sub-menues... |
