I like checks (I let them pile up without cashing them for awhile so that I don't get the urge to piss all my money away on useless crap)

Wenchy 2005-04-27 10:53 PM

I prefer good old paper checks, so that's where my vote went. I have this real thing about check stubs for bookkeeping reasons, plus I much prefer having the funds in my hands even if it does take a couple of extra days to get it here. I do most of my banking via ATM anyway as I live halfway across town from my credit union, but the post office is only a few blocks from there so I can do all the check gathering and depositing in one trip once a week. However, I suppose if sponsors offered some way of printing out a "payment receipt" or check stub online, Epassporte wouldn't be bad...

I'm just not comfortable handing out my banking information to anybody who asks for it. I've recently been the victim of identity theft and I guess I'm a little paranoid now. Once per lifetime is more than enough for that BS |dizzy|

I *love* getting money in the mail. Check please!

Senator 2005-04-28 02:26 AM

Direct Deposit because fast and instant. On the down side, I had ARS remove money from my business bank account. Not cool :(

it works fine for me, ,like Cleo i only use my epassporte plastic card to pull cash :D

Mishi 2005-04-28 04:40 AM

I'm with Wenchy - give me a paper trail. It makes my record keeping more simple and accurate.

I have one sponsor paying me via ePassporte, and that makes for a great "petty cash" fund for domain renewals, StatsRemote payments, Target.com (damn them! How dare they accept ePassport Visa!) etc. - almost feels like "free" money.

I would like to see a lower minimum payout from some sponsors. $50 is fine; $100 is too high. I don't promote all sponsors equally and it's not uncommon for a few weeks to go by before I hit the magic number. (In some cases, months or even years - I kid you not.) Cash that is not flowing does me little good.

Fonz 2005-04-28 05:15 AM

I pushed the "Regular Checks" button. But that's probably because I don't know exactly how this whole ePassporte thing works :D

Certifiedbitch 2005-04-28 05:18 AM

i prefer ePassporte because it's hassle free.

Exactly. There are two main groups voting at this thread:

1/ they pressed ePassporte button
2/ they do not know how ePassporte works :D

Exactly.

$1000 is usually the minimum for wires.

Cost to cash a check for me: $2 = 0.2% fee
Cost for a wire for me: $35 + $12 = 4.7% fee

If you add all the small fees you pay over the year, it adds up to pretty much and I like to keep unnecessary fees to a minimum :)

That's my cue.

Well.. it really is very simple.

Get an ePassporte Personal Account - Either go to https://www.epassporte.com/ and get one, or find a sponsor that will give you one. You can get a Virtual account issued to you within minutes.

Tell your sponsors that you wish to be paid by ePassporte and give them your ePassporte account username. That is all they need. -- You can use the same ePassporte account with each sponsor you promote.

Sponsors will push payments onto your account on their usual schedule.

BUT...............

-> You get your payment instantly. No waiting for mail, no lost mail, no worry about the check clearing, no updating your address with sponsor.

-> You receive your money at no cost to you (unlike PayPal who takes a fee for receiving the money for you).

-> You can shop online and spend your money with your Virtual Visa.

-> You can add an Electron Card to your account and pull cash from ATM's or shop at your favorite stores.

-> You can send money to any other ePassporte account holder instantly, anywhere in the world, for less than the cost of a stamp. (P2P)

-> You have a documented transaction history online so that you can print out for your records.

-> You can increase your limits based on your particular needs.

-> US account holders may transfer funds to their US bank account.

-> No Internet access? No problem! You can check your balance, transfer funds, or re-load your account from your mobile phone.

Cheaper than wires, faster than checks. The Power of Visa.

How many more reasons do you really need?

Write to me if you have questions. Rand @ ePassporte .com

When I finally broke down and went to get an ePassporte account and looked at a free one from a sponsor but I didn't like the way my account would have been so I just went to ePassporte and got an account. Simple, painless, got just the account name I wanted. It did cost a couple of dollars, can't remember exactly but it wasn't much, I got the extra card and stuff.

I got a tax question about ePassporte.
I'm a corporation so my sponsors have corporation tax ID. If a sponsor pays me by check it goes into my corporation's account and if I want to personally use that money I have to take it out as salary so I have to pay taxes on it. ePassporte I just take it out with the ATM card and it seems to me that I have unreported income since I've basically been given cash with no real records since you are not required to file anything when a business is making out checks to a corporation. Nothing really filed on me as payments and well cash is…

Not that I would ever cheat on my taxes and not report all my income or anything.

Rand 2005-04-28 02:23 PM

Cleo - I'm not exactly sure I understand your question. But, I'm in no poistion to offer anyone tax advice. You may want to confer with your accountant.

Cleo 2005-04-28 02:28 PM

I already know what my account would say. :D

dareutwo 2005-04-28 02:49 PM

Send me a check -
I do have an ePassporte account - used once. If I need to use it again, I'll transfer the funds.
Plus I love the look on the tellers faces when there's a bunch of them. :)
(remember this is a really small town - I know everyone at the bank)

Though I agree on the 100.00 minumum being too high.
I'll try out a sponsor.. make a sale or two, but if the conversions suck, it can take a long ass time to get paid.
Fortunately, there hasn't been too many sponsors going belly up for quite awhile.

I know how ePassporte works, but I still prefer a check.

The proper way to do it is to get your business bank account added to your ePassporte account & transfer the funds that way.

Rand - thanks for the |spam|

Cleo,

You might want to use the transfer to a US Bank Account rather than the ATM -- at least that way you have a paper trail.

If you take it out at the ATM, you need to save that receipt and record it in your accounting as a separate accounting entry of cash in/cash out.

troy 2005-04-28 03:26 PM

Definitely Epassporte

Why do I bother posting here?

stuveltje 2005-04-28 05:12 PM

some does do less for bankwire ike ccbill 100 (but then 25 cost) extreme paycheck 200 cost 25 , guerilla i believe 600 cost 20 bucks(not bad if you think i pay more for an 100 check in holland) still epassporte is the best:D

MadMax 2005-04-28 05:17 PM

I'll take checks every time. That way if there's an error I have a document in my hand and not just a string of numbers in a transaction ID. It also forces me to take notice of who pays on time and who doesn't. The fees do piss me off though.

No - to me it's just another step in the process. You'll never have every sponsor paying via ePassporte, so I have to take the money from there & put it where it belongs - I'm doing that with checks anyway, so this does technically add another step. That & there are limits as far as the amounts & whatnot, which might interfere with me transferring large amounts to my regular bank account, not to mention the fees that come with the transfers on each end.

Sorry - I just don't remember anyone asking for info on ePassporte - let alone a book on the subject. If Storm Pay had come by & posted the same thing I'd have told them off too. We're not like very other board in the world & I like it that way.

Lunatic 2005-04-28 06:32 PM

The only thing I don't like about epassporte is the $2.00 charge most, but not all, sponsors charge. But I still like epassporte the best. :)

Why are you so sure about it? Maybe it will not be ePassporte, but I bet that every sponsor WILL offer some kind of instant payments based on Visa/MC cards in the near future. Simply because it costs them almost nothing and because a lot of (especially non-US) webmasters demand it.

As in every industry, competition will lower prices.
