One main factor when we considered getting a link list script was support and that's why we chose wsnlinks. Paul who runs wsnlinks has been very good at that and they do have a support forum which provides great info for their customers to improve their script. Plus he is always updating the script and adding new features which nice. They also have wsngallery which I think would make a good content management system for 2257. We have also purchased that script too and must say works fairly the same way as wsnlinks but you can upload images and movies to the site. Plus you can integrate the two together which is nice. You can also integrated other scripts into it too like vbulletin, phpadsnew which we have, phpbb, and others.

But....still have not ruled out wsn...among in-link as the other possibility.

That looks like a pretty impressive script, even has a banner rotator, but @ $399 it's on the pricier side.

Well Ill give wsnlinks points for the easy install. Got the free version set up in minutes and it has been the only free script out of about 5 Ive tried to actually ever install properly.

So Im checking out the free version now

Thanks everyone for the replies

First, msanchez....glad to hear you had a good install for this wsnlinks one |thumb I hope it works for you and gives you exactly what you are hoping for.

Yes I totally agree Lemmy....and $400 is high, although I know this would probably be considered a competitor for gossamer which sells for $450 (then add on plugins, even more). Right now I made an offer to them to drop it $100...so we'll see if I am successful ;)

+ 1 for Iron List
Cheap & very powerful.

I'm still using Link Up Gold
The new version 3 has all the mods I had him make for me in the past 2 years plus mass link addition and some other stuff. And yes it makes html pages with the plug in.
Templates are pretty easy to edit according to whatever you like. The only thing is you can not pull the script into a text page via ssi. I'm bugging him about that.
Blacklist now has a feature like the tgp scripts (you can blacklist individuals when reviewing) and I'm working with Richard to have him make a blacklist spider for the script
I'm almost finished upgrading now (only because of time not because I'm having problems..knocking on wood it's going very well) but it's become a good script. I had outgrown it and he made adjustments for me.

One of the plus things for me in ay script is tech support. And he is there on a dime.

cheers
Amber

As I look through all these different scripts and mess around with wsn links, its stricking me that there are so many features on these scripts I dont really know what I will need in the future. All the different options is kinda confusing.

because i have never ran a linklist or a linklist script for that matter what may look good to me now, might not work for me in the future.

I see most of them have the basic features like link checking and such but many of them have all sorts of polls and viewer comments that I really dont want or need right now.... but its that always unknown future of what might be needed in a year or two.

Things that havent even crossed my mind because I havent dealt with open submissions and reviewers, etc.

SO maybe someone can list me really the features that are needed now and maybe some of the features Im not aware of that I will need in the future?

Thanks

Here is some recent news that I just heard from someone I know who received email reply from xpowerlinks....quoted from their email he gave me:

Thank you for the question.
We are not quitting from XPL project. We are working on the update right now, but we decided to publish the new version in September. Just because of summer and low business activity in this period. The upgrade from XPL 1.x to XPL 2.0 will be free of charge for current customers.
So...I guess everyone can take that in and translate it anyway they want....my friend was saying they want to know what forums are saying things about xpl...

Since there now seems to be more than one version of the alleged demise of XPL it might be a good idea for the developers to come here and set the record straight.

Possibly true....always better to get the story direct from the source rather than 3rd party translations and assumptions....

I really hope that the email he got was true because I got something all together different. I would like nothing more than for them to keep there word and release the new script. So for now until I hear from them or someone comes to explain the email I got I will keep looking.

Xeno 2005-07-25 03:36 PM

I sent them an email to post their comments and as Lemmy said, to set the facts straight for everyone here....so hopefully they will enter this thread and let everyone know what is going on.
