OMG, I just checked that, left the other one checked as well, and grabbed new codes for the Zines that load across the top of this page. http://kinky-cleo.com/ I wonder what the downside is to doing it this way? It does seem to load a lot faster. :)

This script is amazing, but damn it has a plethora of bewildering options.

Should someone with minimal server admin experience (namely, me) attempt to install phpads.

What are the implications of using it to serve ads on multiple domains on a single server. Can it be done, and how much does it effect server speed. I'm talking about a lot of domains here.

What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Thanks

1) Yes
2) Yes....Doesn't effect server speed much at all. I serve over 100,000 ads/day on http://www.RateNudePeople.com with 2 ads.
3) 95mph

Update, the non JavaScript doesn't seem to work with html banners, only images, so this option wouldn't work at my link list since almost all my ads are html ads so I guess that is the downside to this type of invocation.

With the regular banners across other domains, I would think none. You are just hotlinking your banner with the link pointed at your script which it redirects.

To make sure it's the fastest, make sure that you have it set to use the cache and move all banners from the database into a folder.

oh, that stinks! I only use banners not the html ads.

RockDaddy 2003-11-19 02:59 PM

Cleo, if you really want to do that, it looks like you can check the box for Allow Invocation By Frames and it will use an I Frame to display on your page. Not sure about it exactly but it's in the documentation. I'm sure you could play with and get it to work the way you want.

I wonder what this is like to use "Allow Remote Invocation using XML-RPC". I've never worked with XML.

I frames don't seem to resize to fit the ad, maybe because the ad is in a 100% table.

I remember when I first got phpads I sat down with the manual printed out and used JavaScript because that was the option that worked with html ads.

Faster is always better, but it seems ok on my sites as long as I only do a few banners on my sites. Then again JavaScript runs really fast on my computer so maybe I should check my stuff on other hardware.

Still playing (ok hitting it with a stick) around with this.

Redo htaccess to include php.

Contact admin to set up db and crontab.

db crash, add another 4 solid days to re add all the lost ads (my fault).

Remove ALL SSI includes because you can't have SSI and PHP on the same pages.

If you have a lot of different ads on the same page, ie 3 different bbw sponsor ads (with text below) on the same page, it's a real resource hog.

With All the pop up free ISPs out there (that simply block javascript) I won't ever use that option to cross domains.

Would I recommend it? Yes, given you know the pitfalls.
What would be better? something written in C++ and FREE :)

Until then, this will have to make do.

I always get somebody else to intall my scripts. In the 9 million hours you spend dicking around with permissions and chmod - you could be tweaking your pages to make money.

I serve all of my adds with a javascript banner rotater, but I put a twist on it where I serve hotlinked html snippets onto the pages, so I rarely have any server slowdowns beause it's not pulling off the html for the banners.

Every banner I show comes off a script. There's nothing like quickly being able to reroute all of your traffic by twaeking the bannerserver. It makes you life much easier.

Oh yeah - is that an African or a European swallow?
