I'm sure Jim's units will be fine, I doubt it's a large percentage of them being defective. I'm no fan of MS's methods of dealing with defective hardware though.

Their first batch of Wireless Routers (MN500; manufactured by SMS at the time I believe) was as far as we were concerned "a little fucked up."* I worked tech support for the unit. No one ever told me why we were handing out an "unoffcial" update to customers who met a certain critera but I felt like we were using customers as guinea pigs. Sometimes the update would just fuck up the unit completely.

It's funny, in training we were playing with one of these units in prototype form. It still had the SMS branding on it. The particular problem manifested itself. Our trainer said "yeah, it's just a prototype. they'll fix that before it ships." =)
