Oh, the linklist thing.
I remember someone very upset that we had more than one anyway. She, was so pissed off that Rick was going to open mad.com as a linklist that she almost quit. I hope I didn't give it away who she was :)

webpower and CE both argue that they were the first... there are extensive articles about it on other boards

[quote=Jan Barnes]What happened to the Xpics guys anyway? /QUOTE]

If I recall from the LA papers, I beleive some local DA's took up the cause for many-a-surfer who were getting the raw end of the deal.......the bad old days of porn billing......I dont recall the exact details but I am positive about it being Xpics, DAs, and surfers in the story

CE is definately the front runner for oldest, but how about Flashcash? I seem to remember them being on the scene in 98, maybe 97.......

FC is several years younger than CE or that "other oldest program" and they are still running. Although their best years are behind them unfortunately :(

X-Pays have been going for a while, they were one of my first and at at the time best sponsors.

Babylon-x was the first programme I joined but I think they have gone now.

I just checked and babylon-x is still there and still working on the naked celeb thing, not sure if it's the same people though. I think the original was based in Australia and a woman called Tracey was running it, if my memory serves me correctly |loony|

I think some program called Helmy's used to be pretty big, but do not really know what happend to them. They were active pretty early on from what I can remember.

Also, this is a long shot, but wasn't there a program that used a pig in their logo? Not sure if it was called spanky's or something like that, they were huge from what I can remember.

I dont know about SEVERAL. The internet may go back to the 80's but the commercial WEB only goes back to 94, or 93. And If you can say FC's best years are behind them, where's that leave CE? Anyway, on topic, I conceed CE as old dog (still breathing) in the pack.......

The Internet had its origins in 1969 as an experimental project of the Advanced Research Project Agency ("ARPA"). First called ARPANET, the network linked computers and computer networks owned by the military, defense contractors, and university laboratories conducting defense-related research.

The World Wide Web concept was created in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee and scientists at CERN (Geneva), the European centre for High Energy Physics, who were interested in making easier to retrieve research documentation. But it wasn't until 1993 when Mark Andreesen of NCSA (National Center for SuperComputing Applications, Illinois) launched Mosaic X, that the WWW really started to take off. In 1994 there were 3000 web sites world wide, 25K in 1995, and 250K in 1996.

Somewhere during 1995 is the point where there were enough Internet users for programs to be profitable. Growth from that point was totally unreal.

I know i got my first cheque from Gamma in 1996, I can't recall exactly when during the year.
but I made my first dime in April,1996. I always thought it was with 4wyw.com
The only other one I can remember from back then is CE, but I know I had a couple of other sponsors, Probably just long deceased...

I remember telling a few people, mainly family I made my first dime in internet porn and they all laughed at me.
Then a few years later a couple of them asked for help getting started themselves :)
