these storms always pussy out when it gets to long island
i was ready for some good weather flash lights in every room generator ready lanterns charged spent the day staring out the window but nothing happened :-( |
Morning guys,
Well the storm blew off a good part of my wooden fense last night. Speaking of fenses, there's racism on both sides of the fense. Blacks gets to call the rest of the country all kinds of names and get away with it, while Imus gets canned for one remark. No race is more racist than another - it boils down to balance of power. Now I don't buy the "this country is getting too PC" angle either Useless. If some newbie mouthed off to one of your friends in a thread, you're not going to just let it slide. You'll stand up for your friend and make the newbie pay (no offense to newbies, I consider myself a newb). That's all that's happening. Imus called these girls a name, and people are standing up to defend them. |

This wasn't just one quick remark either on Imus's part. He has been crossing the line for years with his remarks. I think his last remark was just the icing on the cake. I'm glad he got fired and think he deserved it. I guess I'm one of those overly sensitive people because it really bothered me. I really felt bad for those girls and felt the need to defend them in my own way. So I did in my sig |thumb |
Seems to me that if we all get any more uptight politically correct we'll start shitting diamonds.
Don't agree with what Imas said, I personally don't, don't fire the man for speaking his mind but do voice your opinion. Dialog ends when you kill the messenger. |

To paraphrase Anthony of O&A, if we all agreed, if we all spoke in an unoffensive manner, there'd be no point to the First Amendment. It wouldn't be necessary. However, we recognize that we will not always agree and we should, therefore, have legally protected free speech. Why would I think that a handful of pornographers would understand the necessity of free speech? :D |

Get the point? Those who don't believe in a slippery slope are often found on their ass at the bottom of the hill. |

Sure fire him if he isn't bringing in the bucks. But he was fired for his remarks. It was after the fact that his advertisers said they were dropping him and not all his advertisers said they were dropping him. Like I said, I don't agree with what he said and I don't even like the guy or listened to him but when someone is outed for speaking their mind I personally think we are going down a very dark path. |
They claim he was fired for his remarks. And Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are happy to agree with that. But, who knows how different it would have been if the advertisers kept quiet and kept paying?
And I do agree with you. Censorship sucks. But like most say, he had the right to say what he said and the public had the right to not buy from the advertisers and the advertisers had the right to stop advertising. I think hidden deep in this outrage, it was all just a business decision. |
It is summer here, 30 C like at Fonz.... I was resting and taking naps all Sunday, with windows open in each and every room, yum... sis told me the smell of the trees and bushes and plants in flowers is magical, all I felt was allergy lol. The weather is still wonderful. But hey, we were heating last June so anything can happen.
Have a great whatever, I am downloading a dvd in 26 parts for hours and have to restart my mini mac often because the host doesn't like me. But I have a dynamic ip. |waves| Peace. |
Morning.. and it still is here in the Land of the Lost.
We had massive Rain here this moring then suddenly at 730am.. it all went away and the sun shone. go figure... I'm hanging around a bunch-o-broadcasters .. tho i printed some of GG's blog rants on the lack of HD content and put them in various boxes in the Press room.. Hopefully they will take heed. Of course the Buzz is all about 1st Amendment rights.. Imus etc.. ...and I can just say there is really only one group that across the board it is still OK to make fun of, both publically and privately .. and that's Phat People. Guess we need an "Al Sharpton" to be our advocate. Have a good one..it's back to roaming the halls... |waves| |

I'm from Canada. What the hell does "nappy headed" mean, and why is it so offensive |huh
I'd honestly never heard the term before all of this. |
Nappy Headed is someone with kinky or frizzy hair. The racism of the term goes way back in America.
It seems kind of strange to have this discussion in a good morning thread :) |
As for the free speach aspect of it. There is no free speech on a corporate or privately owned radio or TV station. Just like any message board.
I could see the free speech issue coming up if Imus was at a public KKK get together and said what he said. But he was on a corporate owned radio station and a corporate owned tv station. Like I said, just business. |
I’m a Imus fan, it pissed me off when I reached over at 4AM this morning to turn Imus In The Morning on and got Al Rocker and assorted call in guests bitching about Imus crossing that imaginary line.
Why wasn’t he fired for calling Bush a Buffoon? Why wasn’t he fired for implying that Dick Cheny convinced a very simple minded George Bush to go to war so he could get kick backs from Halliburton? Where was the Gay Community when Imus went off on Cheny’s Lesbian Daughter? Where was the overweight community when he was teasing his chubby sports announcer about his upcoming wedding? Why haven’t the Democrats or the Clintons shut him down for having a Bill Clinton Impersonator on once or twice a week. My point is Imus doesn’t single out anyone, if your in the news chances are he’s going to make fun of you. Imus sure as hell didn’t coin the phrase “nappy haired ho’s” (you know it had to have been a black man) So lets all forget about Imus raising over 100 million for charities or his camp for kids with cancer, crucify the man he crossed the line. |
Good evening all:) Got a huge headeach, did visite the fatherinlaw at the hospital, my kids dont like to see their grandad there, still funny to hear my son saying, heay i didnt know grandad had sucha big belly:D
Finally my treatmill arrived today and ofcourse my kids are fuckng around with the damn thing, also didnt know i bought sucha big treatmill....i miss calculate the size big time, also the weight of that thing ...230 pounds, hubby and me where thinking how the hell we could get that thing upstairs, we manage in about 6 minutes, but both needed oxigen afterwards, plus we damage the walpaper and the floor...but who cares that thing is upstairs and stays there for the rest of our life. Again F84 here but this evening we notice more wind, tomorrow we will have a temp of F52....damn how to get sick. I am realy tired thats because i worried about my father inlaw and my kids an hubby, if they are sad i am sad. Well tomorrow a new day , so you all have a great day! |

Anyone who claims that Imus has had a track record of offensive, possibly racist, comments over his almost 40 year career in broadcasting, I can only say - fuck yeah! I'm in absolute agreement. |thumb He was the original shock jock, so of course he has made his fair share of offensive remarks. Big whoop! Offensive is funny. Racism is funny, unless you're a racist and don't get the joke. ;) That bitch (with a capital CUNT), Ann Coulter, recently referred to presidential hopeful, John Andrews, as a faggot. Very offensive remark. Lots of people bitched. But she's still on the conservative/nazish talk shows all the time. I didn't even hear of a single book burning event. |

I did remove my comment in my sig file which seemed to start all this. I'm mad because he singled out a group that didn't deserve it is all. Nothing to do with racism or freedom of speech. But then I figured by me posting Imus is an asshole I was lowering myself to his level. Which would be REALLY insulting. |
Anyone that hasn't noticed the text above my avatar should read it & then leave if you're offended, because the right Free Speech means the right to offend people.
|
I am so shocked that anybody cares that Imus got fired. If you ask me they are all a bunch of idiots making millions of dollars complaining about other people
I love MSNBC but I could never get into an idiot in a cowboy hat doing a radio show on TV. You dont watch radio, you listen to it |
Quote:
1 - the point really isn't if you liked or disliked Imus - we all have remote controls & we all know how to turn the channel if we see a show that we don't like. 2 - I do like to watch radio - and others do as well. I have PalTalk (a webcam service) so that I can watch Opie & Anthony while the show is going on. Stern had that show on E! for years. There's a number of sports radio shows that are broadcast on TV. I think part of it is that the radio show is not available in every market, but pretty much everyone has cable, so more people will listen/watch. |
