i pay anywhere from $6-$10 for a virtual account, i have a bunch of them across a lot of different hosts.. that way my whole business isn't crippled if a host has some downtime.

$12.95 a month on Hostgator. It's the largest of their shared hosting plans.

Did everything work smoothly with them? Do you have any scripts installed? I hear they're shutting down accounts like crazy and trying to force people to upgradet to (semi)dedicated and the reason seems to be their scripts take too many resources...

The only things I have installed are WordPress (and some WP plugins) and an adserver. Both of which are installed by Hostgator via Fantastico in cPanel.

I've only had one instance of downtime in 15 months with them. And that was for like 10 minutes.

Sounds good...
Another question... how much BW do you actually born? They advertise a lot, do they actually give it to you?

I've not paid for any overages yet (knocks on wood...). My transfer is pretty light compared to what the typical adult webmaster is going to need. Though, I do serve some photos and video. I'm in a small (but growing, damnit!) niche.

Ok thank you for the info... "hotwives" :) BTW I took a look at your site - good stuff!
I was wondering whether they come up with excuses to kill your virtual account once you start burning BW like crazy... which they almost always do... the "better" the offer, the faster they freeze accounts...

I remember looking at GoDaddy for hosting, but they have a no-porn clause in their usage agreement... Is something like that generally not enforced? Is it really that important to find a porn-friendly hoster?

YES!

Am I going to get the same kind of power/resources at a porn friendly hoster? Being pretty new to this, I guess I'd assume that the big hosters would have more available resources than the guy down the street who doesn't mind porn on his servers... No?

What good are the resources it the business plan of the host is to force you to move up or out. Read the horror sorries of those of us who tried main-stream hosts only to have to move at the most inconvenient time.

Get a good adult host to start with - you won't regret it.

And who said that there aren't adult hosts wit the same resources as mainstream. Look at the % of BW that adult industry uses and it becomes immediately clear that some of the biggest providers are adult.

We just went through a forced move off a mainstream hosting company that I have used for years - but their policy of forcing server upgrades when BW increases does not work with my business model.

Mr HappyFace - just as Papa has stated..its not fun to HAVE to move. Its best to start with what you need - menaing an adult friendly hots..there is plenty of them out there from $10 per month for a virtual shared hosting plan all the way up to sveral hundred dollars for managed and unmanaged dedicated servers. Do your homework, dont try and cut corners with non-adult hosting..if they dont catch you right away..they will and youll be forced to find another.

I've been hosted with Go Daddy for several months now and was told that they hosted adult websites. Anyway I haven't had any trouble with these guys and their service has been good so far but I don't like the idea that they have a no porn clause in the usage agreement.(I should of took the time to read the fine print).|banghead|
Being forced to move at the wrong time sounds like a big pain in the ass and in the long run its probably better to host with an adult friendly provider.

I'm with Phatservers and have been for years. If you are looking for your options, send an e-mail over to Bridgette@Phatservers.com and she can discuss your needs and find a plan that would work best for you.

mrhappyface 2008-05-11 09:30 AM

Are there any good (cheap, reliable) hosting services out there that support Windows as their host platform? I've looked into about six of the providers suggested on this thread and all of them only support Linux based virtual server solutions...

officegirl 2008-05-15 08:57 AM

i recommend way3.com - i am not connected to them in any way, they offer great cutomer service and cheap rates that are very adaptable, and they carry over unused bandwidth to the following month...
