On a more serious note.

I have at least a glass more days then not. I usually stock Chianti, Syrah, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. Zins and Cabs give me head aches during the 2nd glass. I've heard it's an alergy thing that happens to some people because of tannins.

I grab a bottle based on what I'm having.

Asian, Spicy Food and often Pork - Riesling
Seafood - Sauvignon Blanc
Beef/Smoked Foods - Syrah
Most other things - Chianti

My current favorite from Chile happens to be the Montes Alpha Syrah. If you try this don't spill it. It's really very deep and dark.

Now I get a magazine that highlights wines available in Canada (where I live) and it shows me what is good (and inexpensive) to drink. (So when it gets right down to it, I am a cheap bastard and I hate buying bad wine so I decided to adapt!)

I like reds from Chile and Argentina (Malbec esp). White and Reds (esp Shiraz) from Australia are good too. Despite be reasonably far north, Canada's Niagara region makes some great whites.

With a good magazine that has tasting notes you can try to see if you can pick out the different flavours that the reviewer found. Start here:

http://www.winespectator.com/Wine/Home/
http://www.wineaccess.ca/ (This is a Canadian magazine and it will indicate if a wine reviewed in available your province.)

Here are a couple I am drinking now:

Weinert 2003 Malbec Mendoza, Argentina C$18.95 (red) and Pratello Catulliano 2006 Lugana Italy C$15.95 (white). (We pay a lot of tax in Canada on alcohol so in the States you'd likely get this for 2/3 to 1/2 of the Canadian price. Ouch!)

Agree :) We've returned from Italy few weeks ago with several bottles of Chianti.

Yeah, I went there the first couple of years when it was held at the Convention Centre. It was good because I could take public transit home. I think they then moved it to near the airport which doesn't work because then I'd need a driver or $50 for a cab. Oh well.

Hahaha, too funny. Mad Dog and Boone's Farm takes me back to the wild years. Couple bottles of Boone's orange hurricane or some Mad Dog with a bag of weed and that shit was on back in the day.
