Be honest, be polite, ask questions, and thank the people that your questions. Oh, and make sure you actually take the advice given to you to heart. Advice is pointless if you don't act on it.

Now I got started in the pioneer days so I basically had to teach myself how to do AVS, free sites, link lists, spam, etc. (TGP didn't exist yet) but there's all kinds of boards and resources out there to help newbies these days. I think that makes up for the fact that it's not as easy to make quick money like it was back in 1996.
