I don't want to spam and I don't want to step on any toes, ESPECIALLY not those of Mr. MaryLou, but I would be a bad, bad marketer if I didn't pop in to mention DragonList. I built DragonList because none of the commercially available scripts did exactly what I wanted. I personally think it's one of the friendliest linklist scripts out there, but of course I'm biased. ;)

More info and a demo are available here. We're still getting our billing system set up, so the script is not officially released yet, but it IS available for purchase. Oh, and the demo is not the most recent version, but it's fairly representative.

I use the script to run XXX Good Stuff.

Now I feel like a dirty, spamming whore. Off to take a shower...

Brilliant, Mark, that worked perfectly! I knew there had to be a more elegant solution than the one I had been considering, altho I was looking in the right direction. Thank you!

I will be in the market for more mods, so I'm quite interested in your list when you get it done, and I'm sure other would be also.

Pervy, I've installed scripts before, but I'm still definitely in the learning stage with this stuff. Yes, the url thing is done by changing the first href statement in the links.html. I gathered you need to use %URL%, that is, what I read said case was important, so I've only tested it in upper case.

I installed the category page title mod too, that works well.

Now I'm into the grunt work stage, where I'm just adding urls and trying to perfect the look of the pages.

And next I need to teach myself phpadsnew.

Hi Bill,

Which mod is the category page title mod ? I'm not sure I've seen that.

One mod I am looking for (I did find once but can't find again) is one which will show page numbers on the category pages [1][2][3][4][5] instead of just Next 10. Have you found that one ?

I'm in the process of redesigning my pages, although I am not much of a designer ;-)

If you need any help with PHPAdsNew hit me up, I've been using it for a while.

Pervy

I don't post much but on all my research this is probably the best ll script out there

spacemanspiff 2004-07-06 02:46 PM

I'm using GT's Links2. It's been modified pretty extensively to get the look and functionality I want. It does take a little coding knowledge (of which I have very little) but I find that it does pretty much everything I want.

I let the script build plain pages of links in a folder, then insert them on my category pages as include files. I've got some pretty big databases, and I keep wondering when I'm going to have to upgrade to the SQL version, but it's working fine so far.

If anyone needs any help with Links2, I may (or may not :) ) be able to help, but I'll be happy to try.

This looks very nice, will have to download the demo. :)

Hi Pervy, the category title mod is this one here:
http://www.webmasters-resources.com/...title_mod.html

It lets you assign individual titles to each category page from the category section of the admin. Easy to do, works fine.

I haven't seen that mod you mention, if I do I'll let you know here.

Spaceman, I knew you liked the links2 script- what do you think the practical limit on database size is? It sounds like you solved the question of being able to build the category pages off the root, rather than off subdirectories, by that includes trick.

That xpowerlinks script does look nice. I think I'll try a demo of it too, sometime in the near future. Has anybody else here tried that script? Any problems?

spacemanspiff 2004-07-08 06:02 AM

Bill, I have a little over 10,000 sites in one of my databases. I thought I would run into problems long before now and have to switch to the SQL version, but it just keeps chugging along. I had some timeout problems on one host, but that was easily fixed. I had them increase the t/o interval by about 10 seconds and that did the trick.

Pervy, I was messing with links2, and am having trouble getting the "last five links" (lastlinks) mod to work. I loked at your site and noticed you had taken it down. Did you have any problems with lastlinks?

Mark, if you read this, have you gotten a list of the mods you do together somewhere? And what do you need to have installed to install the blacklisting mods you mentioned before. For instance, is there much danger of me damaging the blacklist mods if I'm doing all sorts of other mods afterwards?

Bill,

I just sent you a PM, let me know if you have any other questions mate

Cheers
Mark

It was good in its day but it hasn't been updated in a long time and it doesn't seem like it will ever be updated again. It has a couple of very annoying bugs in it.

Do you still recommend this script?

How long did it take them to get back to you on purchasing xpowerlinks?

I have been running LinksSQL for a while, but I'm just tired of it and want something that was targeted more for the adult market. LinksSQL is great, but it is such a pain in the ass to configure. X Power Links looks promising, and is reasonibly priced, so I think I'll give it a try. The only thing I hate is the Zend Encoding. Any idea what amount of the source code is encoded?

Accelman 2004-10-17 05:18 AM

Hi guys. I will not duplicate our adv message, just link:

There is only main functions PHP-include encoded with Zend to provide per-domain licensing. 95% sorce code does not encoded. Database is totally normilized. One page request does about 7 SQL queries.

Understandable! I hate when some people encode 90% of the script, then it makes it almost impossible to customize it.
