I tend to hit the waves with a big bag of White Castle hamburgers. Taassttyy burgers.... hmmm.. :)
But yeah, I wouldn't trust IE on any unknown sites or while doing site reviews anymore.

My one grievance with FireFox is how it stores bookmarks in one html file... that is somewhat annoying.

What about the google toolbar though? I have become quite fond of having that on my browser. I just switched to Firefox just now to test it , but it looks like the toolbar only works on IE.

Google toolbar is Windows IE only.

I used to have to boot up my PC to check page rank but then someone posted this link.
http://www.freelance-help.com/google.../page-rank.php

There was a Google bar for Mozilla on Mozilla's development page, not made by Google, that did lots of what the real Google bar did except page rank. I'm not sure if they have updated it or not but last time I checked it was broken with the newer builds.

Check out some of the plug-ins for firefox.

If you have a desire to know the PR of someone's page just right click in Firefox and select View page in IE.

Great for finding out what the PR is of that page with the hijack script that sends all your personal info to some enterprising young man in Russia using the dialer that it installs for just $25 per minute.

Well I can say I am happy with FireFox so far. Although I am still running my windows OS for now trying to get all my apps setup on my linux distro before completely switching but FireFox is nice and the speed is good.

I found IE was mostly just due to habit.

I had the IE icon in the quicklaunch shortcuts and just click on it by habit.

Now FireFox is default browser and I have it in quicklaunch. :D

Be sure to check out the web developer plug-in. It's da bomb.

My friend's children keep on infecting their PC by using Outlook and IE. Is there a way to completely remove these programs or at least make them impossible to open?

Start->control-panel-> add remove programs -> Add/Remove windows components.

You can remove outlook and ie from there completely.

Is it XP?

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=332003

http://www.theeldergeek.com/group_policy_editor.htm

Should help.

I think it's better to use the tools above to control access rather than try and remove stuff.

The kids will just reinstall in IMO.

It's also good to have control over what programs the kids can use. The parent(s) should be the Admin and the kids should have unique user names.

Actually they just toasted their Windows98 machine again, usually takes them about a month.

I've got a Win2K machine that I haven't needed to boot in months so I was thinking of giving it to them but figured they would do the same thing to it unless I removed IE and Outlook from it.

Also Angel bought a Mac but still has a XP laptop that she lets her house guests use so she wanted to also remove Outlook and IE from it.

Alphawolf 2004-07-20 02:17 PM

The stuff I posted applies to Win2k as well. Set up different users and play with the policy editor.

Load it with Mozilla or Firefox.

Teach them to use another mail program built into the browser or something like Eudora.

Load SpyBot and Adaware and use SpyBots immunize that hooks into IE. Makes it slower, but if they use it at least it's wearin' a condom as it surfs. :)

Just have to come in and say we use Firefox and I'm very used to it now. Miss the toolbar, but I can live with that.

And the latest version doesn't refer to itself as a Firefox. Instead you get a new stupid name every time you load up a browser window.

Thus, right now I'm surfing with Mozilla Spacenarwhal and Mozilla Moonfish.

So far we've encountered:
Implodingvulture
Sealemur
Superwolf
Moonemu
Spacemonkey
among others. :)

Sounds like you accidentally installed the Firesomething plugin.
It's supposed to be funny since they keep changing the official browser name. :)

Razor 2004-07-21 05:41 PM

Firefox man!
It simplifys things for ya and if your thinking about an email program "Mozilla" rocks!

That sounds like it might be annoying for stats programs that compile browser stats.. or for those that want to redirect users of imcompatible browsers (like firecrap) to an alternative page.

Jim 2004-07-28 03:04 PM

I just finished trying Firefox again. I am back with IE and, will most likely stay.

Why?

You didn't change your shortcuts did you?

DID YOU?!?

:(

It's habit to go from quicklaunch or a desktop icon.

To me, running with FireFox it's like a whole other innernet. :)

I feel much more safe surfing in FF than IE.

Jim 2004-07-28 03:39 PM

I didn't change anything :)
It's been a long time since I have had any problems with IE. Until something really bad does happen, I will stay with it.

Alphawolf 2004-07-28 04:57 PM

Kind of like saying you'll do gangbangs until you get AIDs then you'll stop.

Until I redid my system I also ended up going back to IE. :(

I haven't seen a pop-up, under, over sideways, flash ad, 'you must click OK to proceed' or any of that bullshit since swithing to Firefox.

I feel like Cleo all of a sudden. There's clearly a supieror product out there. It's free. It may save your computer from getting hosed, yet some don't switch.

I know- habits die hard. :D

Cleo 2004-07-28 06:28 PM

I can't stand a browser without tabs.

Back before tabs I always had a bunch of windows open and it was pretty much a mess going back and forth. Now I just have one page with all my windows in tabs so that I can go back and forth.

Also I have tab groups. Each morning I check all my servers that I own and some that I manage. I just click on that tab group and they all load at once in tabs. Same thing with checking my sponsors or doing submits.

Also when reading boards I go down the list of of threads that I want to read opening each one in the background in tabs. Then I can read each one and they are already completely loaded as I click on their tabs.

Having popup blocker is also sweet.

Using IE feels like I'm using some old browser from the last century. Its missing all the features that I've come to expect.

I'm actually a Safari, Mozilla, IE browser user in that order. Safari and Mozilla have about the same features and IE is for doing reviews.

Tommy 2004-07-28 06:39 PM

Safari is da shit !!!!!!!!!!!

to bad they dont make it for windows
