Congrats to the Czechs. They obviously were the better team today.

It would have been interesting to see how this game would have turned out if Canada had sent its BEST players though.

Ha ha very funny...but if you look back to the previous two world championships, you would see Canadian Gold because those teams had ALL the Best that Canada had to offer.

Anyhow, enjoy it while it lasts.

Well, I would say that the best international matches are when NHL is interupted, like in Nagano or today, when every country can send its best... But anyways, it would not be such a great victory without such a good opponent like Canada, congratulations to the 2nd place.

That's my arguement right there. Canada didn't send their best. Their best are at home sulking that they didn't get paid millions of dollars. I guess it just goes to show where this team's priorities are right now.

anyhow, congrats to the "A" team from Czech Republic. They managed to beat a "C" team from Canada.

I am sorry, that we did not send "C" class players to give Canada a chance, but we do not have any... ;)

Do they use real Swedes on the Sweden team or do they import Canadian players like the US does in the NHL? :D

Congrats Czech!

So worth it, I am glad you beat the little babies in Canada!

Well, Sweden did not play very well last nite.
But I think we did a good tournament over all and our new coach did a great job. Something for the future.

Back to lick my wounds.....

LOL! Now that's funny. |thumb

Although I do admire the work ethic and determination of the Czech players and congratulate them on their winning this tournament, they still have a LONG way to go to be compared to Canada's greatness for hockey in general. You didn't see Iginla, Sakic, Foote, Blake, and host of other great players because they are too busy counting their millions.

While we're on the topic, didn't the Czech's lose to Greece (the Euro Champs, by the way) in soccer? :D

Thomas...I honestly thought you were a sportsman. but I guess you are just anti-Canadian. I was born in the US but have lived here in Canada for 33 years now and to hear such a malicious attitude towards Canadian people at all is tragic. :(

There were also a bunch of no shows on this Swedish team as well.

In fact, the only team that was represented by its BEST players, were in fact the Czechs. And for that reason, they deserve to be considered WORLD CHAMPIONS for 2005. Not just on the ice at this tournament, but also in heart and patriotism as well. |thumb

Way to Go Czechs! |headbang|

Pornex, in your "IF they would be there, then Canada would win" there is nothing I can discuss with, sorry.

Well, the topic was about ice hockey, but you are right. To lose to future European Champions 0:1 is a shame and it deserves even bigger smiley. And I understand that even current 2nd place in FIFA world ranking http://www.fifa.com/en/mens/statisti...r-2005,00.html can not balance it out :(

I love hockey and I have played for 25+ years myself.

You are so right, Canada is a great hockeynation but I really think they act like little babies when things arent going their way. Whats up with starting a fight with less than a minute left of the final?
I understand if they are frustrated but come on..

Ever seen The Great One act like that?

Yes, we sure did miss Forsberg, Sundin, Näslund, Lidström.....
Maybe if the get paid they will come!?! :(

I don't agree with starting the fighting with little time left on the clock either. I'll just chalk it up to inexperience for this young group of players. But to call the Canadian players babies is rather short sighted. The refereeing was pathetic and totally favored the European team.

Comparing frustration to ANY of Gretzky's efforts is like saying why did King Kong attack the fighter planes while he held Fay Wray hostage? Its futile. Gretzky was not a pugilist - ever.

This is my point:

When there are International Championship Events that require the best to play, the best should come play. No ifs ands or buts. I was very disappointed that the Best did not show up from any of the countries. And believe me, I was just as disappointed the Best from Sweden, Finland, Russia and the US did not come to play. Could you imagine some of the line combinations that were missing? Think for a second.

This is why this tournament was a big disappointment in my opinion because I did not see the Best of the Best play. Except from the Czech Republic. They took this tournament seriously and to them go the spoils of victory and they deserved it. Plain and Simple. But to say they beat the best from Canada, is short sided and laughable.
