You're still hotlinking other people's stuff and showing it out of context.

You still don't seem to get it. If the people submitting the sites to you know you're doing this then it's OK otherwise you need to stop doing it.

Hot linking people's content without their explicit consent is theft nor can you change thier site without their permission. There is no way you can justify it. Plain and simple. ---art

In your most recent post "Original Gallery and 2257 info can be Found Here." is linked to another gallery. WTF? If it's a 2257 link then use it as that, if it's a gallery link then use it as that. You can't jerk people around like that and expect them to join anything!!

cj 2005-08-19 01:26 PM

people know im doing this because its in my terms witch can be found here(on the submit form): http://www.cjspornsite.com/webmasters/submit.asp

And the 2257 link was messed up because i was fixing some bugs... check it out now...

i see people have there opionions, but every one is different, im sure some wont submit, some will... But now im sure im not doing any thing wrong...

Every one is different, thats the answer...

thanks...

If you're going to do it your way no matter what, why did you ask for advice in the first place? Let's hope your server can handle the onrush of submitters.

Greenguy 2005-08-19 01:34 PM

WOW!

Let me make this perfectly clear:

YOU CAN NOT LOAD OTHER PEOPLES IMAGES ONTO YOUR HTML PAGES!

YOU CAN NOT LINK DIRECTLY TO PICS ON OTHER PEOPLES DOMAINS!

It's called "hotlinking" and it is theft.

It removes control over my site and presentation which I enjoy having.

People will not see the amount of traffic hitting their gallery pages. They will only see their click throughs in the sponsor aff. area. The URI string may not show accurately in some their stats as the refferer because of your page's (unmasked) dynamic nature. The webmasters will not get SE value which a URI hardlink to their gallery provides. If the sponsor goes under/fucks affiliates over and the webmaster wants to pull links as far as I know they can't unless you do it for them. You'll get hit by autosubmitters eventually. The shitheads who blindly autosubmit will see you hotlinking might fire off some nasty emails your way.

The consistant presentation is a good idea, some people will like that. But when you throw other people's resources into the mix I dont see it flying well.

SirMoby 2005-08-19 04:34 PM

There's something that you just don't seem to understand. People DO NOT WANT HITS as you keep saying. They want PAGE VIEWS of the sales pitch they've created in the form of galleries.

Peoepl will realise that you're hot linking thier images and then block your site. One day you'll have 5,000 images linked and the next they'll all come up 404. Your surfers will hate, the webmasters submitting to you will hate you and you will get very few link exchanges.

Do as you wish but you asked for help. We're all telling you that what you are doing will NOT work. Your site will NOT grow. Surfers will NOT keep returning.

Try it for a year and then come back and tell us if it worked or not. Of course you could always take the advice of people that have been in the business for many years.

You're clearly talented

You're also trying to reinvent the wheel

The wheel is good - leave it be ;)

Ramster 2005-08-19 11:14 PM

CJ
The way you are doing it now there isn't any links to your site so why bother? Just link to their gallery now, you may as well.

Another option is to open the gallery in a frame with ALL their ads and full gallery being seen. There is a site that does this now. But stop the hotlinking, it really is the wrong way to get things going.

Jesus H Christ! Next thing you know you'll be taking time off to sleep. If you have time to eat, shit and sleep you are not working hard enough. You're never going to get anywhere in this business if you keep fucking off.

ecchi 2005-08-20 12:25 PM

I usually work while I am eating, so yeah, why you got to take time off for this thing ? :D

Keep cool guys! Written stuff can be missunderstood too fast :-/
I'm the same opinion as most webmasters: hotlinking is not ok.
BUT: CJ is not simply hotlinking the pictures.. I took a look at the gallery from his last post and I must say that he just redesigned the galleries and gave it a personal touch. from what I can see he does not try to hide the source of the galleries at all.
The "first version" of his gallery-script did not have enough sponsor's info on it.. but he did take your advice..

he also is a pretty new member and I think its always harder for new members to take harsh criticism

lets all stay friends :-) we're supposed to be a community.. right?
