Thank you everyone.
I think we get the final details tomorrow about treatment.

Forcefed 2007-07-25 10:40 AM

My thoughts and prayers will be said for the both of you two.

Yeah, I used to friends with the first person in this country to beat childhood leukemia. Doing very well 40 years later. At the time they wouldn't even schedule appoints. Sorta, "If you are here next week, we will process you"!

So sorry to hear that Jim, but very glad to hear that you're going to be doing the clinical trial. They're doing truly amazing things with treating some kinds of cancers.

Rather amazing thing that I(personally) have started pushing some celebs/execs/politicians that I know to wring peoples arms to get funding, because there is no ROI in it for the drug companies.

It's already a prescription drug, and some doctors may prescribe it off target.
From the U-of-A website:
"We believe that because DCA has been used on human beings in Phase 1 and Phase 2 trials of metabolic diseases, the cancer clinical trials timeline for our research will be much shorter than usual.

I bought some DCA a week ago. We decided before we took things in our own hands, we would ask the Doctor. She never heard of it. :) And now, we don't want to do anything that might exclude the clinical trial. But, we have a 200 day supply in case the government makes it illegal. And we paid a whopping $85 for that 200 day supply. It is funny that since nobody can own the patent, very few tests are being run on it.

terry 2007-07-26 08:54 AM

I am at a loss for words... sorry to hear the news Jim. Best wishes for you both.

Well as Obamma put it in the debate the other night. Get the drug lobby out of politics. |bullshit|

Hell, take a day off the war, and pay for the trials that might save millions of lives.|virgohippy|

Cancer has to be everyones biggest fear and hearing about people who have beaten it is always a good thing to see.

I hope in the near future, this will be one we'll hear about.

Best of luck Jim & mrs Jim.

My wife was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago with cancer. It appears that we are going to the National Cancer Institute in the very near future for a clinical trial. The upside of going there is that as far as I know, there is not a better place to be treated. And the Doctor/Patient ratio is about 1 to 1. The downside is we have to move there during treatment. We have no idea if we will be able to go there just for treatment and be able to come home or if we have to stay the entire time. Either way, I am going to be scarce.

No matter what, I am bringing my laptop and my entire PC. There are certain things that I have to do no matter what is going on. Paying bills being one of them. :)

As for my lovely wife, Victoria...if she didn't tell you she was sick, you would never know. She seems to have very few symptoms and feels fine. Mentally, it has been really hard for both of us.

It all sucks but as she says..."that's life".

Just a quick update since I really haven't said anything in quite a while. It appears that my wife is doing too well on chemotherapy and radio surgery to have to go to Maryland. So as far as I know, we are here to stay.

Oh yeah, we are both much better mentally. I guess you can get used to anything.

Again, sorry for bumping an old thread but it is better than starting a new one.

NY Jester 2007-11-14 01:27 PM

Jim, thats great news. I hope the positive keeps on for you both. As much as it takes a toll on the one who is sick it also takes toll on the one who cares for them. Do your best to give yourself time each day for you..even if its a 10 minute walk or a deep breath of morning air, clear the head and stay on track. Both my parents founght cancer and survived it. Its a real bitch but make sure to stay positive and never give up. My thoughts, prayers and good vibes out to you both.

Hang in there Jim, and best wishes to you and your wife.

My brother and his wife recently went through the cancer thing. She was diagnosed about 5 years ago, went through a few years of chemo, lost her hair, etc.... and she beat it.

They are both retired as of this past summer, they bought a lake house in BC and have moved out there. They recently bought an A class motorhome... no sign of the "C" returning.

Hopefully it never does, and hopefully things work out as well for you and your wife too Jim.

Jim 2008-01-02 12:22 PM

I am bringing this old thread back again. I have another update. Without looking, I believe I wrote that my wife's oncologist called the way the meds are working, "amazing".

Well, we saw her again today. This time it was even better. I have to say I have never heard a doctor say this but during the examination of my wife today the doctor said, "This is a miracle". :) My ears perked up and all I could say was, "A miracle?" She then told me that since this medicine (Temozolomide) came out, she has never seen or heard of it working as well as it is with my wife.

I guess it's not much of an update but it is big for us.
