Same here since I got home. :(

The board is hanging on loading the top buttons and just sits there with 2 or 3 buttons loaded. If I hit reload then sometimes it will finish loading for me.

Still slow from down here...

I too had the "header" errors this am.. php/sql errors.

For those of you that think things are slow, try this page:

I preview of things to come :D

The head tech guy at Nat Net is calling me around 10-10:30 tonight & we will have this figured out soon :)

That page loads MUCH faster for me! It shows me the text pretty much immediately, & it loads the graphics as I watch. It doesn't hang and make me wait until everything is loaded before showing me anything.|bananna|

AussieWebmaster 2003-11-12 11:42 PM

errors

I am getting php script errors at the top of some of the pages

Greenguy 2003-11-13 12:24 AM

Here's an update - part of the php on the board does not like part of the php in the rotator - we are currently using a java option for the banners, which is causing the board to hang or load slowly. As you can see from the news page, the php versions of the ads load much faster :)

So, Nat Net will have one of their php guys working on this from the time he punches his timecard in the morning (I assume they will let him have a cup of coffee 1st) & hopefully we can find a solution to the problem (which, BTW, seems to be a very common problem with vBulletin)

I have confidence that the Nat Net guys will solve this & everyone will dance like banannas!!! |bananna|

Basically get rid of the stuff between the script tags and use the a href in the no script tag.

Page 80 of the user guide. Remote invocation via javascript will slow down your page load.

It looks like you are using Remote invocation via javascript which you really only need if you are going to display rich media ads (flash).

Delete this stuff for each banner:

Use this from the tag

Which is what you are doing on the news page.

Greenguy 2003-11-13 08:39 AM

Snowone - it's not that simple - LOL - the code on the source of the news page is what you get after php has done it's little thing - the hard coding that you get from the 2nd part of the java script code is just a back up & doesn't rotate properly :(

guschi2k 2003-11-13 08:44 AM

today it loads (for me) really fast for the first time :)

probably the reason why this seems to become my "yes i'm a board whore"-day here at gg&j |bananna|

Surfn 2003-11-13 09:08 AM

The board loads at an acceptable speed for me this morning, as is evident from the number of replies I posted |cheers| |ggandj

Cleo 2003-11-13 09:24 AM

It has been very fast for me this morning, but just now when I hit reply in this thread the board got hung loading the last two top buttons and I had to hit refresh to get the board to finish loading.

docholly 2003-11-13 10:15 AM

it's horrible for me.. i'm still waiting for 96 items to open..but at least giving me the base page..

totemack 2003-11-13 10:28 AM

nice sic ye got there mr mary lou ! |afro|

AussieWebmaster 2003-11-13 11:53 AM

much better

Yes cleaner and quicker

boneless 2003-11-13 04:53 PM

speed of this board sux big time and thats for me the main reason not to post here anymore and only read it when i got a shitload of time to load up some threads. Only the loading of the reply box of this thread takes more then a minute for me.

And dont start bout my connection. im on a 1.5 mbit cable connection and all the rest of the boards are lightening fast here.

hope you can fix the probs

cheers,

boneless

Greenguy 2003-11-13 04:55 PM

boneless - we know what the problem is & the tech guys at Nat Net are working on fixing it (see my post(s) above)

It's been slightly slower the last few days (specially those days the Australian Telstra ADSL was playing up - so nothing to do with you!) - but in general going from thread to thread no problem for me!
The initial first load of the day seems to be rather slow, though! As if the board software needs lots of time to set cookie and work out which threads to marks as un-read. And if I come back later (like 2-3 hours later) I find the same settings even though I've read several post beforehand - now that's a glitch!

edit: there I posted that it loads fine, and then it took ages to refresh the page... Read two threads on AWW in the time.

MrsHackula 2003-11-13 06:29 PM

Yeah, still doing the same here...

I don't know if this will help, but hubby wanted me to mention it. We just recently installed the adsnew program on our own posting board, and he used iframes for the banners. It doesn't slow our board down at all. I don't know if that will help for your particular situation (we use phpbb) but hubby said I should mention it, just in case.

Greenguy 2003-11-13 07:04 PM

Actually, we think we have it fixed :D

I don't see if if I use http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/ but I do see it if I use http://greenguysboard.com/board/ (time for me to clean my cache - LOL)

matt 2003-11-13 07:24 PM

I'm still clocking a massive 0.6kb/ps loading the board :)

Cleo 2003-11-13 07:33 PM

This looks like it might be it. :)

The board no longer waits for the banner rotator to finish before the rest of the page loads. I see the alt tags on the banners as all of the page loads at once and then it loads the images after the page is completely drawn, just like their wasn't a banner rotator at all.

Well if this doesn't work I say we start giving the hamster steroid injections. :D

Zoom Zoom

Hey, this is Stephen From NatNet here, I tweaked some code [insert nerdy PHP jargon here] in vBulletin so things should be much much faster now (the remote invocation for the ads was the culprit).

Thanks for your patience and have a nice day! And here's a dancing banana:

|bananna|

Jim 2003-11-13 08:35 PM

I do like the way it is loading now :)
Nice Job...

Cleo 2003-11-13 09:04 PM

It is incredibly faster!!!

I may have to install seat belts on my office chair it is so fast. :D

So how many webmasters does it take to build a fast board. |jester|
