what if Tigermom, like me and like a lot of other people of Jewish descent, had ancestors and relatives that were killed as a direct result of hitler's actions - would that not affect that person? What if those people had lived, would they have raised their children differently, lived in different places? And in turn would those children have had different lives? And their children...all the way down to me. Would I have a different life than I have now if those relatives had lived instead of died?

The past always affects the present and the future.

By the way Simon, that was an interesting read, maybe this thread should end :D

Ahhh the "what if", ok what if the raids on the heavy water plants had failed?
Remembering things like the berlin pact and hitler declaring war on the US, would any of us be here now??

What if the 1000's of bombs that destroyed london killing 10's of 1000's of people didn't happen?
What if coventry hadn't of been levelled by german bombers and 1000's of people hadn't of been killed?
What if millions of allied soldiers hadn't of been killed or wounded?

Do i take offence if hitler is mentioned?
Does anyone else anywhere take offence?

Seems not, so why do you? before our time was it not so how has it effected any of us, please explain?

Nah sorry, seems you don't get it, the fact of it is, people use a religion/race as an excuse to make a statement.

Yeah, I guess you're right.

I like how he's telling me about my own national identity and family history though, and that I can't be an atheist and Jewish. That, unlike the feeble Hitler joke, did make me laugh. A bitter laugh though.

tigermom 2007-11-07 01:03 PM

Oh, and sorry Sheepguy! Didn't mean to hijack your thread, my friend!

Exactly! And I keep waiting for someone to come up with a spoof of the Buddy Christ spoof, called 'Jewey Christ' instead. (Or is that too politically incorrect for today's world? Google says a search for that term matches nothing!)

:)

.

Great reading Simon,

but seriously, what about a 'Chewy Christ' - cuz I'm hungry as hell!:D

I guess someone has to as it seems you're a little confused yourself.

The joke was on you not me. :D

Sure, darling, whatever you say. I'm glad we have such an expert on Judaism on the board as yourself. |bow|

I'm not an expert at all and don't take it personal either.

I take it you're in the US? if you have a passport, what does it say as your nationality and what does it say as your religion?

Why take it that I'm in the USA? My passport says Israel for nationality, so do the passport of Muslims and Christians and anyone else living in Israel. I don't think it specified religion anywhere. Same goes for ID cards. Under nationality there it says Jewish. Nothing about religion in it though.

Fonz 2007-11-07 01:47 PM

Congrats on the 1000 posts again Sheepguy! :)

Licker4U 2007-11-07 01:51 PM

Congrats again SG! I'm still wondering what we get for 2K, 5K, etc. |huh

The point about the US is it's built on multicultural, if you were born in the US your identity is an american, whether or not your ancestry is from another country/culture.

You're right, it doesn't mention religion on passport as i just checked on mine but i'm sure it was asked when i filled the forms in.

It was just that anyone i've known being atheist have always stated that in religious qustions on forms.

So with that in mind, you are an israeli and you are an atheist, where does the jewish bit come in?

Bobc01 2007-11-07 02:38 PM

One last point on this, the jews that were murdered in WW2 were germans and european.
German people born and bread, their "Religion" was jewish. note "german" and "jewish".

Not israeli, not hebrew or any other nationality they were german.

Now why, someone who doesn't practise religion take offence?

I don't know why I'm bothering to post this, since I know that it'll fall of deaf ears. But I somehow cannot NOT post.

Bob, are you seriously asking why a Jew would take offense to your poor attempt at humor? Without even delving into your truly astounding depth of ignorance as to what Judaism is and who the Jewish people are, the joke itself was shit. It didn't make sense and wasn't at all funny. If it was at all clever, I'm betting that Tigermom would have seen the humor. She, like the rest of the atheists here, sees the humor in having a small statue of JC standing on her desk.

Read this: Ethnic Group

Now, are you really going to tell me that you can't at all understand why someone would be at least a little sensitive about another person making light of the systematic slaughter of their ancestors? Hitler aspired to wipe out the entire ethnic group. Ethnicity goes beyond religion or language or nationality. I think you are missing that very important point.

He killed them for their religion as he did with many others who didn't fit his master plan, wasn't just jews, he wanted to wipe out anyone that didn't fit the master race plan (blonde, blue eyed).
As i said, they were german origin with jewish religious beliefs.

An atheist is someone who denounces religion, therefore this is someone claiming to be offended by an act against a religion!

JustRobert 2007-11-07 06:16 PM

Very well said UW and Thank You for saying it!

BTW - Wahoo to Sheepguy :D

Bobc01 2007-11-07 06:28 PM

Would anyone think hitler was of jewish decent? if you can't answer that then before anyone else comes in butt fucking, go read up some more!

Edit: i should learn from the people who say, never debate religion or politics on a public forum as there are too many people waiting around to jump in on the moral bandwagon with a transparent aim to score points.

What a classic fucking case. |jester|

I hate nazis.
I really don't like nazi apologists either.
I could bring up the gypsies here, 700,000 or so of them were slaughtered by Hitler because of their ethnicity, or I could bring up the handicapped, also slaughtered because they didn't fit that short impotent fuck's version of the Aryan master race, but why bother? There will always be some addled moron who will say something like "Hitler was good for the economy" or "He just took it a little too far".
When debating with nazi's or their apologists truth is useless, fists are the only language they understand. Which is why in my opinion WW2 was the only just war of the last century.

Here, here, I was going to stay out of this, but I have to agree with ShepGuy 100%. Fuck nazis!

Bobc01 2007-11-07 11:11 PM

Hitler was a decendant of a jewish grandfather who abused him as a child, he was a syphlitic bi sexual junkie who took out his own insecurities in the way of genocide.

So it wasn't only jews, gypsies and disabled, it was gays and many others that through his life he thought wronged him.

Obviously what UW stated about falling on deaf ears is true. I thanked him because of what he said, not to score points. If you think thanking UW or anyone else on this board is going to get you in their good graces you are highly confused.

It does not matter whether AH was Jewish or not. Just like it does not matter if someone is atheist or not. It is about the wiping out of entire ethnic groups or for their religious beliefs or not. So anyone can be offended by this.

I am a recovering catholic. I do not believe in organized religion. Here is the twist. I am married to a lovely Jewish woman whose family was there. Not in Germany like you keep mentioning, but in Poland. When he was reaching out to surrounding areas for clensing purposes. Only 12 of them escaped unharmed before the shit hit the fan. But unfortunately the rest of the village died, slauhtered in concentration camps, because they never thought AH would reach them. Yes, their family had their own village. Enough said.

See, I was thanking UW because I did not want to talk about this but I feel I needed to.

You have offended me, my wife and her family ...... Thank You
