Gee Whiz! The contest is not even 24 hours old & you want to gut it? :D

I'm not gonna lie - and I think everyone knows this - the sole purpose of this contest is to bring attention to the board & get the not-so-active members in here so they can look around for an hour or 2 before we pull the name. (that's not to say that the next one won't be pulled 5 minutes after the contest has started)

I'm also pleased to say that yesterday was the "best" day we've had on this board, beating out the previous one by about 30%. It was hectic - I was moving posts & editing sigs for about the 1st 45 minutes, but I expected that. All in all, I think it went rather well :)

I'm not a big fan of letting people know in advance that there will be rewards for post totals, as this does bring out the people that post for the sake of posting & getting their sig file seen. This is why, like when we announced the Super Bowl Contest, we didn't let anyone know what the cutoff post total was & we didn't let people get more posts in order to get in the contest. I think everyone knows that we will do our best to take care of those that take care of us & I think that the Super Bowl Contest is a good example of how we do that :)

I'm not a big fan of the new newsletter contest rules, but then again, that hasn't really brought them out of the woodwork too much & I do see how the new rules are a good thing.

I'm rambling again.... :D

Oh yeah - I almost forgot - my dick seems to be a bit bigger today, as we went from 8 to 7 on Board Tracker :D

I'll have to agree - with all the boards in the industry, getting high post counts on all of them is impossible unless you're a postbot or full-time post whore. The important thing is that people are reading and viewing the advertisers. I personally rarely posted here (even with my other nick) but I look forward to newsletter & emails (I save them!). One of the simplest newletters/emails to read. Clean, not cluttered, to the point and most importantly informative - yes, I follow the links back here but I read and not necessarily post. The other thing I find useful is the show - I've listened to probably 20-30 adult shows - 95% were GreenGuyandJim. They don't waste my time - period! I'm sure there are others like me - not active participants but users, viewers and lurkers of the forum nonetheless :) That should be good for something, right?

I don't by any means believe that someone should have to be an extraverted post whore to win. But I do believe that being part of a community requires involvement. One should give, not just take. Contests should be a reward, not a gift. What's the point of giving money to surfers or hobby hour slip-sloppers?

I also am harshly against boards that pay per post since they are the ones that seem to motivate all of those surfers to post. I don't even like to discuss the ones that reward you for authoring the longest thread or a thread that gets the most member involvement. Those are always chock full of fat, but no meat.

This is a great board and a wonderful community. I certainly don't come here everyday in hopes of winning a contest one day.
